New computer, copy of Win from last comp won't connect.
« on: July 08, 2007, 03:10:10 am »
Hiy, New Dell computer, put in cd rom of my copy of winmx 3.53, copied successfully onto my last computer from the comp b4 that, although often slow to connect always did eventually, yes, that cd copy included the first patch to fix win from the great shutdown, when it was installed on last comp, to my surprise took and worked immediately,
but no go on this machine.
Failure.
Both are Windows XP.
the sticking point seemed to be the TCP connection test, which it said it failed to connect in message window, but offered no real course of action to solve. It is a cable connection what speed I dont know, whatever optusnet in Australia normally is.
the icon etc it there, program opens, but simply never establishes a connection.

Ive seen a later copy of win mentioned on google, '2007, would you advise downloading this?
( i had doubts if it was genuine)
thanks.

Unsure now reading about that there may have been a general problem on the system i've been taking personally.
Last successful download was at Sunday, 1 July 2007, 3:01:10 AM.Australian "E.A.S.T" time
This may have been right on the time there was a general problem commenced?

Aerosmith "Sweet Emotions"

there were over 1000 files of it in my search i admit there were multiple failures like about 20 b4 one finally took..

it is prob the patch you are using that is not working due to a recent change, you can get the new one here give it a try and you should be connected and blocking fakes in no time,

I installed that yesterday, pretty sure it was same one, it brought up the Welcome to WinMX banner on the site, but it still remains in yellow mode and fails to make connection.

It's got 90 days Simantec trial which i think includes firewalls but a pop-up did come up saying it had 'learned' win MX, which is its way of saying it will permit connection, rather than block it, I think.
One thing I noticed when I was running the instal was it said it failed to make TCP ( is it?) test connection.
it is Dell Dimension E520, Intel core Duo proc e4300, 250gb SATA HD
Windows XP

Never makes the connection, just sits for hours in Yellow mode.
On old machine connects in a short few minutesd, usually, as late as about 20 hrs ago.

One thing I wanted to try was a de-instal fresh instal, but win MX doesnt seem to come up in the control panel install/deinstal list, i can find it in program files, there is an uninstall icon which is a VDU with a large red X over it, not sure if that is normal, nothing happens when you click it, there is also an uninstall trashcan logo, but that isnt actually an uninstall program, i dont think.

And yes, i think it is a firewall etc, that is why TCP test originally failed probably set the thing up for failure ever since, but I dont know F/A squAT about firewalls generally, let alone how they apply to this how to access them check settings and allow Win, if thats where its all at.

just right click the winmx folder in your program files and delete the whole thing then reinstall using the one at the link below.
The easiest way to see if it is your firewall that is blocking winmx is to turn off the firewal and try connecting, also check if windows firewall is also turned on in  start >>control panel>>security centre>>firewal as running two is never a good idea and unnecessary (as this alone causes conflicts with certain progs)

i seem to remember i had a similar experience when running symantic in the past as it doesn't seem to be none to winmx friendly these days, another possibility could be that in installing the new patch it is blocking due to the fact a lot of security progs will see this as a hack due to the host file being changed (as they recognise this as hijacking and will block automaticly) so deleting and a fresh install is probably the best way to go if this is the case

fresh winmx + patch all in one >>>    https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html

I'd recommend that you get sygate. This is a free and winmx friendly firewall and is great.

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

the windows firewall was switched off anyway, actually, and the winMX program was ticked for 'exceptions' even if it was on.

yesterday I suspended what firewalls etc I could see in symantec for 30 mins suspension, closed win and tried again including the TCP connection tests, didnt work, simply failed the TCP test again.

The re-intall with patch and 3.54 in one has worked, with all firewalls and security disabled for an hour, different instal windows came up in that installation to the old version with it establishing TCP out and In separately, it didnt break down at the combined TCP test as it had with 3.53v + patch.

Be interesting if it stops working when internet security come backl on in an hour, but if it does, I know where to look.

thanks to all, I admit I had pretty much given up.
