I'm not new to Winmx, but I am new to this forum.

I tried reading the debate over Peer Guardian, but that left me
more confused. But the most recent post on that subject from Me Here
said that if you are using a primary connection it's important that you
use PG.

The one for XP wouldn't download so I had to download the one
for windows 98.

I did change the drivers so that stopped the blinking yellow light
and I'm able to search.

However, I'm not able to download at all. It either stops in the
middle or it doesn't take.

Did I do something wrong with PG?
All I put in the lists were:

and https://www.winmxworld.com/files/allow.txt (allow)

I was under the impression you open up PG, before you open up winmx.
Then when PG is open, you open winmx and then you can start
searching and downloading...but all I get now are files that stop
downloading.  And I don't know if I'm doing something wrong on my
end or if the other users I'm trying to dl from haven't fixed their
settings.

I live in the States so getting a letter from the RIAA has
always scared the heck out of me. I want to make sure that
doesn't happen, by setting up winmx in the safest way possible.

Hi Liam

You are best off deleting PG. And I would go here and download this https://www.winmxworld.com/files/winmxfix-windows.zip.

To install turn off winmx.
Save the file to desktop.
Run the file after downloading.
Last of all open winmx.

the fact you're using the win9x version may be the issue, try getting the xp one again

if you're using a hosts file (which that update installs) then using pg when running primary is imperative

Thanks. silicon_toad says to get rid of PG, Bearded Blunder says it's imperative to keep it.  What should I do?

Liam here is the reasons for the confilct in advice..

Recently Im sure you've read on site, the person that runs the WinMXGroup site is not going to be doing it anymore..which since he also is the one that makes a patch (that has built in blocking and lists) we are having to use other methods to connect.  That method (the new hosts file fix we have asked you to get, and you have installed) DOES NOT have any blocking.  It is a temporary fix and we are working on a solution that will have built in blocking and no longer require you to use PG.  Until that time we need any primary users on this hosts file fix using PG with our lists. 

I hope this clears this up for you some.

it wont hurt to download that no Liam and if some are connecting and some are not that is usually down to either your ISP throttling WiNMX Traffic or.. its them..

For now monitor it and try to let us know how things are going.. ie; more complecians then not.. etc..

Well, I thought everything was well. I was able to make secondary connections to the network--and could download--now, even with PG running I'm still getting a blinking yellow light. It doesn't matter if I choose secondary or primary. I cannot connect. I'll try the new patch in the link above.

Liam the new patch you have you dont need PG2 so please dont use it with WinMX.

Secondly Id like you to remove WinMX from any allowed rules (esp in XP which seems to be badly triggered by the patch change and blocks access) then restart WinMX and allow your firewall to ask permissions again.

You'r likely not to be able to connect with PG2 running as it blocks half the interent..
