Tiscali Purchases Pipex And Bulldog Names
« on: July 15, 2007, 04:35:00 am »
Another group of  UK ISP's have been bought out in the latest round of ISP consolidating.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6897687.stm

Quote
UK internet firm Pipex has sold its broadband and phone business to Italian rival Tiscali for £210m ($426.6m).

Pipex is one of the last big independent broadband providers still to be operating in the UK, following a number of recent deals such as the purchase of PlusNet by BT.
The prospect of a sale has therefore been closely watched by rivals such as BT, BSkyB and Virgin Media.
Pipex itself has expanded through a number of acquisitions in the past few years.

In addition to its Pipex brand, the firm also sells internet services under the Nildram, Bulldog and Freedom2Surf names - each itself formerly an independent internet service provider.

No doubt we will see yet more throttling of services as this is a common feature of Tiscali services in the UK thus far.

same with pipex just not quite such a chokehold as tiscali, bulldog never throttled untill they was taken over by pipex ( they just raided your bank account randomly now and then) if things get much worse here in the uk snail mail will be the new fast connection lol

The purchase of Plusnet by BT came as a relief to most of their customers as they were running out of capacity after coming into some financial trouble, their ellacoya traffic 'prioritising' was becoming an absolute joke, you couldnt even connect to a WinMx Chatroom between 12am and 12pm, BT vowed that the 1st thing they would do would be to invest in more capacity in preperation for the 21CN rollout, if you ask me they are simply using Plusnet as guinea pigs to test the technology, and judging by the state of the Plusnet Forums its done no good whatsoever, avoid plusnet at all costs  :(

With regard to Tiscali buying Pipex, I don't see how this will make much of an impact at all, both ISP's heavily prioritise P2P traffic to a point where again, even entering a WinMX chat room can become impossible

Avoid these ISP's at all costs
