Helsinki Anarchist Group Clash With Police Over Free Movie Screenings

I havent heard of news like this since the late 70,s , It seems a group of self styled anachists are using derelict buildings to show the latest movies for free.

The latest blockbuster movies downloaded via BitTorrent are fuelling a ‘Pirate Cinema’ with free entry for all. However, as usual, an anti-piracy outfit has other ideas and with help from three police cars filled with officers, managed to detain the organizers and confiscate equipment.

A recent post on the organizers website declares: “The best films are free! Pirate Cinema is an autonomous cinema with P2P-downloaded films. Why should you give your money to big corporations? We are showing the newest movies for free! Pirate Cinema - Every Wednesday at the autonomous social center Elimaenkatu 15A, Helsinki”

The "Social Center Elimaenkatu 15" isn’t an official social gathering place - it’s a squat, a disused building into which the organizers wish to breathe new life by showing the latest blockbuster movies, free of charge to all who attend. August 8 2007 saw the screening of "Transformers" at 19:00 followed by "The Simpsons Movie".

I can understand fully the point being made by the anarchists in this case, simply that if P2P filesharing is so rampant (about 10 million strong +) how can anyone oppose it and then say they represent the populace, the same populace that are enjoying the free consumption of copyright material, it could well be they have a valid point.

I of course have the idea that feeding folks the simpsons is probably the cause of the police arriving

Simpsons is about the only thing ill watch on the tele. its brings up better topics than half the soaps. An im sure everyone likes donughts, infact im sure i can prob find old chat logs of you being sent out for some ;-D

But yes valid point, one day goverment may actually listen to the people, not fat wallets offering a stepping stone up to the pedastles.
