any way to stop highlighting of new users in my queue

It's very hard to search filelists when new users entering keep getting highlighted when they enter my queue because the new highlighted files do what i had intended the user i chose to do. friggin' maddening.

Im not entirely sure what you saying here.. however it sounds like your using a third party upload manager maybe like Leechammer or MxMonitor and those will highlight them as they join because they are doing a whois to check for files shared and other criteria you placed on them.  The simplest thing if this is the case is to click on a user above the last one entering and then click the one you want again to choose browse..
