In this example we will set port forwarding for "Software X", where the default ports are 3646-3647.

do what they told you using these numbers 6699  and  6257    for the ports to be opened instead of software x call it winmx
you should be able to connect once done

Waterpixie this is been going on quite long enough.. LOL

First thing i want to know is the exact issues your having and what if anything you can remember happening when it started or has this been going on from the time you installed to this PC.

Second, every piece of protective software you have installed on the PC that isnt connecting.  Everything, and I want you to tell me if its running or not meaning is it just installed and you use it as needed or does it run and start when the PC starts.
I also want details about it, name, version and laste updated.  Do you pay for it or was it free.

I want complete details about your connection:
What operating system and service packs if any?
What WinMX version? do you normally use primary or secondary
When was the last patch install you made?
Are you on DSL or Cable?
Do you have a modem and a router or just a router, give me complete details of any hardware that could interfere with this PC your having issues with.
Names models, etc. wired, wireless .. adapters everything..

When you've posted that give me a few to digest it and see if we cant get you sorted.

Well , I  moved and have a different isp .  Thats when it  went  down the tube. Had a lil  trouble with yahoo  connecting but  changed some settings and it connected fine.  But winmx is not  connecting.  I  know that  windows firewall and such is in here but its off and i'm not useing it. I h ave nortons internet security 2006. It is on and winmx is allowed. I also have ad aware but only use it  when i want to . I did the update for them when i was able to get online again which  was a week or more  ago. windows was on the pc and  nortons i bought and ad aware was free.
os is  xp  i dunno about any packs . i have winmx version 3.54. the last  patch was a couple. days . ago . I was primary before  i moved . neither of them will connect. lol i'll take either of them . I'm supposed to be  on broadband, but it moves more like dial up . I dont have the modem  from my isp on my computer. I have the belkin wireless g f5d7050 adapter. The isp modem is  siemens 4200 and the  router is belkin f5d7230-4 . I dunno of anything else that could interfere with it , but if i think of any i'll post em.

Fair enough, lets go with this

Since you have paid for the nortons Im hesitant at best to suggest this to you, especially since we are not entirely sure its the cause, but here goes.  I suggest you unintall the nortons.  For one you have a paied copy so you should be able to reinstall it fine if its not the problem and two if it is then we can get busy configuring it or getting you something that is just as good but free to use for internet security and firewalls.

Just to be clear on this we DONT usually suggest this to folks but Im bent on getting you connected and I feel that for some reason you have something in the Nortons not allowing WinMX.  The modems and routers wont effect the connection only uploads so..lets get this one done first.

If your totally against this idea I will understand, however, Im not sure much else can be done until we eleminate Nortons as the cause.

well i cant tell you how   :(  that makes me.. i was really hoping you know.. but we are not giving up yet.

Ok at this time i suggest you reinstall Nortons then, so you covered and protected if you havent already.  Unless you want those free ones I mentioned if you do Avast is great and is on the Links page of the site, its free and efficient.

For firewall I would suggest you use the XP if you are without Nortons for now.

Next I have a free program i love to use, been using it for years.  Its callled Belarc PC Auditor.  This is free, simple to use.  What its going to do once installed is get you a list of everything on that PC.  All hardware versions and protective software installed, actually all software installed.  Its a great tool for things like this so I'd like you to get this. Install it, scan your PC and generate a report.  Save that and then send it to my email @ me_here@winmxworld.com  or contact me on MSN again and let me read through that report.

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

This will let me make sure there isnt anything on the system blocking WinMX access to the internet.

Just to update anyone later reading this thread for help also, I'd like to tell you what we found out.  Waterpixie did indeed run the program and all looked well, when she mentioned that her Brothers PC will also not connect we decided to run the Juno dial up free 10 hours a month to test if that would connect.

That connected perfectly so it is indeed Windstream DSL in the mid/south USA that is blocking connection. Beware of this one folks its another like Tiscali aka pipex that thinks it need be your moral police as a guise to rip you off for the bandwidth they charge you for.

Waterpixie is contacting them and will let us know either here or via me, how things go.

This disheartens me greatly that ISPs resort to blocking a legal program under the guise of potential material you may come in contact with on the network as if you cant find illegal content anywhere on the internet in order for the real reasons of saving bandwidth that costs them money by not actually supplying it to their customers.  Maybe these ISPs should block all sites and then tell you its for your own good?   Oh wait then ppl wouldnt use them and they couldnt rip ppl off like they are customers now... :?
