CAN'T CONNECT

HAVE BEEN USING 3.5.3 FOR YEARS.   DOWNLOADED PATCH ONLY 3.0.  INSTALLED AND REBOOTED.  WON'T  CONNECT.       DOWNLOADED  3.5.4 BTEA 4  WITH FIX.    INSTALLED BUT CAN'T COMPLETE CONFIGUERATION  BECAUSE CAN'T FIND DNS.   MANUALLY CONFIGURED BUT STILL WON'T CONNECT.

RUNNING 98se  WITH A DIAL UP  56K MODEM.    INSTALLED 3.5.4 ON TOP OF 3.5.3

Hi Golf,

It sounds to me like your using the original WinMX Group patch, which we have had to make some modifications to since WinMX Group has closed.  The modified 3.0 can be found here:

The first on listed there is Set Up For Existing Installs, if you want to keep the 3.54 version of WinMX this should get you connected, if you would rather go back to the 3.35 version of WinMX just get the Installation for MultiVersions of WinMX.  Make a clean install of the 3.35.

If after you do this above you're still having problems please post back.
We have had a few folks have issues with Win98 and the new install however, first step is to make sure the correct patch is installed.

FIRST I DOWNLOADED PATCH 3 AGAIN ,INSTALLED . PATCH # 1.0b3   STILL CAN'T CONNECT (DO I HAVE TO REBOOT?

DID AN UNINSTALL OF VER 3.54 beta

DOWNLOADED MULTI INSTALL AND CLEAN INSTALL   3.53  .  GOT TO CONFIGURATION AND IT KEEPS SAYING "RETRY"

I ALSO HAVE A LAPTOP RUNNING XP, AND WINMX 3.53.  PATCH 3 ISTALLED OK AND CONNECTED.  DIDN'T TRY SEARCHING YET. 

NOTICED THE PATCH ON XP HAD TO BE CONNECTED TO INSTALL.   NOT SO ON MY 98se DESKTOPS.    NORMAL??

Hi Golf,

There is a known issue with Win98 and ME users that have problems even after installing the new patch, they cant connect.  Bearded Blunder has the answers but is not around atm.. but I've asked him to have a look here when he is.. to help you.. keep checking back here for his Post

um.. /me can't actually figure out from the above what/where the problem is....

if i knew exactly what/where the problem was.. exactly what it's asking to be retried i'd stand a prayer of identifying the problem..  as it is.. evidently the installer can't do *something* but without the accompanying dialogue.. i havn't a clue what.. could be about 6 places it puts up a "retry" message

try running it in safe mode

BEARDED         AFTER I INSTALL AND START 3.53   IT ENTERS 3.53 BETA SETUP  MODE.      I answer  NORTH AMER  AND 56K MODEM  etc .  THEN IT TRYS TO CONNECT TO A "DNS".   AFTER TRYING A FEW SECONDS IT  TIMES OUT AND   ASKS IF I WANT TO RETRY THE CONNECTION TEST.  NEVER GET BEYOND THIS STEP         

I  TRIED  3.54 WITH SAME RESULTS.

the connection test fails, ok, tell it no , tell it connect directly (no proxy).. wait & see if the light turns green (btw there's no need to shout)

if it doesn't,  until i've done some minor work on the installer.. i suggest using http://winmxworld.com/archive/KingMacro/WinMX%20Connection%20Fix/Install-3.0-noMX.exe (or any of the old 3.0 patch installers) from the connection fix under King Macro.. running that..
it won't connect you but may fix the issue

then re-run the current patch installer which should then connect you

THANKS O BEARDED ONE;    DID THE KING MACRO THING AND REINSTALLED CURRENT FIX.   FAILED TRYING TO SEND /REC  UDP PACKETS.   BUT STARTED WINMX  , CONNECTED AND SEARCHED GREAT.

what do I have to do to connect Winmx proberly, I've no expierience with Winmx, I've used it but now he doesn't work anymore, please help me

if you're using an NT based operating system (NT4 2000 XP or Vista) simply download the installers on the connection page

if you're using a windows 9x based system & have previously had km's 3.0 patch installed (before he pulled our) simply run one of the installers on the connection page

if you're running win9x & either havn't had km's fix on previously, or have reinstalled windows, follow the process inmy last post on this thread

you will have to expand Nat1 .... what patch you are using ....what operating system also your firewall and connection/isp and if a modem or router please also include  the make and model
The more info you have the sooner you can be up and running.

to get you started go to the link below and d/load the patch for existing installs close winmx install the patch and then restart winmx and see if that will connect
