Unable to Connect...
« on: October 13, 2007, 05:29:51 am »
Hi there,

I am having connections problems again. I'm using WinMX V.3.53, OS: WinXP & Wireless Connection thru' a router.
When running the contection test, it failed:

-Retry the connection test
-I need to use a SOCKS proxy server to make outgoing connections

After I chose the SOCKS proxy server option, WinMX kept prompting "Finding Network Connections".
Please help.

Thanks.

hi can you come to this room please

WinMXWorld.com Help_6444D04ABABE

copy paste that room and hash to the black bar just above where the channels would normally list, winmx doesnt to need to be connected for you to enter this room,  it will be easier for diagnostic purposes if we could speak directly.

hope to see you soon    ask for lady ray upon entering  cheers

hi Slashingromeo,

Most ppl dont have a socks proxy they use for WinMX so if Im understanding your post correctly thats the problem right there.

As far as the test failing that could be down to a router or firewall issue that needs resolved  but the first thing you need to do for me is open WinMX > Settings > Outgoing TCP > Set this to 'Don't use a proxy server (connect directly)' and restart WinMX this should at least get you connected.

Then post back and let us know what your name & model of the router is we can get you instructions for that.

a lot of ppl seem to have this problem with the auto test on install and think they have to use a proxy to get winmx working....... i get the same problem when i do a fresh install even with no firewall and with no need to forward ports..... no idea why ....soon as i switch to manualy configure it connects right away....only thing i could put it down to was perhaps my isp trying to block hence no conection on auto.... perhaps auto is a little more sensitive or something ..idk.

So for anyone with this problem on setup just switch over to manualy configure and a good chance is it will connect fine.
