Permanently adding people to hotlist and speed question?

Hello,

I'm a new user with two questions:

1) Anytime I try to add someone permanently to my hotlist, I get a message telling me that names aren't persistent. So, why is there an option to add people to the hotlist permanently to begin with?

2) My upload speek is 100kb/s. For a cable modem, does that sound good? I've set it up so that only 2 people can upload from me at any given time. That way they get 50kb/s download.

To answers your questions:

1) The hotlist option was for an earlier version (I think) of winmx. The way to save them is to add them to ignore and than add them back to your hotlist or even find out what room they are and go visit them.

2) Yes that does sound good and does seems fine to me. Some peoples speed does depends on what they have available and what they are able to download. The upload speed varies depending on the persons connection.

As far as your upload my opinion on that depends on what your line speeds are and if you are running primary or secondary on WinMX.  For example if your running Primary a certain amount of your upload speed goes to network operations (since you are acting as a super node and handling network traffic as well).  You may also find that speed causes sparatic upload speeds (usually a sign that you've maxed out your uploads) which might be wise to set it a bit lower, just depends on if you see problems or not.  If you do have problems you can use this page:

Close all other internet applications (including WinMX) and run this to see what the recommended settings are for your line speeds, it test speeds then makes the recommendations.
