This is so ludicrous its beneath sensible contemplation
http://news.yahoo.com/s/zd/20071213/tc_zd/221645The Department of Justice on Thursday slammed intellectual property legislation that would re-organize its IP enforcement structure, calling it unnecessary and counterproductive to the work it has already accomplished.
"We have a current structure … that works quite effectively," Sigal Mandelker, deputy assistant attorney general, told the House Judiciary subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property.
Judiciary Chairman John Conyers last week introduced H.R. 4279, which would further crack down on intellectual property violations, and create several new government positions with the power to enforce the new law. It is intended to preserve American economic prosperity, according to sponsors.
The new government positions include an intellectual property enforcement representative who would report to the White House, and a permanent intellectual property division within the Department of Justice
The US is fast becoming a land of laughter as those in charge of politics are too busy taking donations to see they are way off base in what they propose and that the punishment should fit the crime, placing a "man in the whitehouse" is a purely political move as it allows the politicians to bypass statute book laws when it suits them, honestly here folks when it comes to copying a musical track worth 70 cents is it really honest of anyone to demand a million and a half dollars in recompense, and worse who gets those potential millions as its certain the artist wont ever see a dime
Its clear to me that what we are seeing here is that the proposed law will not reflect the will of the populace and will fall into disrepute and those who have being using undue influence to obtain this type of legislation will only have themselves to blame as they are the cause of driving this problem underground and will lose out as wilful infringers up the technological stakes.
