Connection/Router issue
« on: December 29, 2007, 03:48:43 pm »
I just installed the D-Link WBR 2310 on my XP system. I'm running WinMx 3.54 beta 4 and I can connect (green Light) to both primary and secondary. Peers can browse me and start an upload but it times out on trying to connect. A simple search of the Beatles shows nothing. I did everything Portforward suggested for this model and still nothing. I usually rely heavily on Portforward.com but ...
I've come to really appreciate WinMx so this is like losing a friend...well maybe not that bad but you know what I mean. Any suggestions other than throwing the router thru the window would be appreciated.

You need to forward ports in your router

Go to www.portforward.com and see your router model there in the router's section.
A tutorial will be given there on how to forward ports for winmx there
Port defaults are:
TCP 6699
UDP 6257
You can forward ports for any other number you might like.
Sonce you have two computers, I'd recommend that you change the port numbers.

After you have done so, go to winmx>settings>Incoming TCP and set the option to listen to port xxxx (the port number you forwarded for TCP)

Same for winmx>settings>UDP in out. Again set the option to listen to xxxx (the UDP port number you forwarded)

You should then be able to connect to primary. Check if your download and uploads run ok and if you get search results and chatroom results.
http://winmx.dnsalias.com/scan/scan.cgi
Go to this page and double check if they are forwarded ok...

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

I have Optimumonline for an ISP and just installed  linksys BEFSX41 wired router and I use Zonealarm.  I have followed the directions at port forward and also made the same changes in Zonealarm, but I still can't upload on primary or secondary.

Then I tried the WinMx port test at http://winmx.dnsalias.com/scan/scan.cgi  and the results were my TCP ports were closed. I've tried several different ports and got the same results every time, my TCP port was closed.

How would I go about opening my TCP ports?

I have done some more playing around and found in a log of the Linksys router that no matter what number I use as a TCP port,  the outgoing log says it's using port 6669

Ladydayz it looks as tho to me that those are the ports  that your connecting to out there somewhere, in other words those ports are the ones others are using and as 6699 is default for WinMX you will run into it more then anything else.

I would do as Reef says go back through your settings making sure that your following the directions there for a Static IP (as Linksys is the worst about changing that ie; breaking your rules) at portforward link he provided, and redo the test for ports to see where that gets you
