I,m sure some of you will be pleased by this news  :)

A survey of 4,000 broadband households has put PlusNet as the top provider in the UK.
The survey, conducted by broadband comparison service, Broadband Choices, asked customers to rate their internet service provider on various criteria.

Sky Broadband came second, ranking top of the table for "clarity of pricing and billing".
Other large providers such as Tesco and Orange did not fare so well, with Tesco criticised for quality and reliability.

The UK's leading ten broadband providers were tested in six categories: quality and reliability, download time, clarity of billing and pricing, after sales support, value for money and speed of service activation.
PlusNet topped the table with an average of 79% of users saying they were satisfied with their broadband service across all six categories.

1   PlusNet
2   Sky Broadband
3   Pipex
4   Tiscali UK
5   Virgin Media
6   AOL Broadband
7    BT Broadband
8   Talk Talk
9   Tesco
10 Orange

It does seem strange to me how BT fare so badly when they are one of the bigger ISP providers or that Orange have such a poor showing when I had heard they where quite resonable, and yet knowing pipex block winmx at peak times and are still at third position is a complete puzzle, still I suppose those who voted had their reasons  :?

Strange results as 5 out of the top six are totally crap (4 really as tiscali own pipex anyway) the sixth one being plus net that i cant comment on as its not available in my area.
How pipex could be in there at all is a total puzzle and a joke as a honest breakdown of them would be as follows..

quality and reliability  3 out of 10   ( 7 before tiscali takeover)
download time            8 out of 10
clarity of billing and pricing  2 out of 10   ( its all in the minute print sir honest)
after sales support         - 10 out of 10
value for money              0 out of 10   ( since there throttling and blocking started)
speed of service activation       slower than a 3 legged tortoise with a wheel clamp fitted

All i can see from this survey is that the people that answered the questions really had little idea on what a good isp should be providing and just believed the hype of there own isp advertising.

A good isp wouldn't throttle or block and there would be no peak times for unlimited customers & they would also answer the phones when there was a problem without having to call 20 or so times and in pipex case they wouldn't have a complaints department that was only available via e-mail that take at least 30 days to respond ( if they haven't lost the said complaint before then)

If you can get ADSL then u can get plusnet, they are yet another pack of BT Reselling jokers, who were last year bought out by BT themselves after their customer base almost halved due to their strict ellacoya throttling, (this even takes place on their IPStream Premium Products !!!)
BT bought out Plusnet to test ellacoya technology on their 21cn network, and you can guarantee the mega heavy throttling will stay!

Take a look at the archived forum BT couldnt wait to bury here and see for yourself what this ISP is all about

Well i have some experience of several on the list, and i agree, seems to be some rather odd results here. How under any conditions BT comes below Pipex, Tiscali, Vigin & aol is bizarre, i havent tried Sky yet, although their package options and "quoted" specs seem appealing at least. I guess this survey needs to be filed along with the riaa results under the "figures can be made to say anything" section ;)
