haha I can understand that especially with all of the RIAA news going around now, but I did not even tell the person that he had to share music. I simply said "files".

I don't offer music myself either. I offer free images and software. He was downloading images, so he could have easily found a few dozen images randomly on the web to share and I would not have known the difference because I had no plans to download from him. It was just the principal of the matter.
Downloading is an addiction I do not want to give up.

Th policy I used to push here was a simple one of inclusiveness, using the methods you suggest such as messaging to at least draw their attention to being fair minded and sharing files themselves is really the most sensible way forward, many are only too happy to resolve the situation.

I myself share open src items, copyright free music, shareware and others items I have created myself, there really is no excuse not to share something but I like to remember to allow for those just joining us with perhaps nothing in hand to share, normally a user with a very small amount of half finished files and few of them.

We need to ensure we demonstrate WinMX is the quality network they seek and a few friendly words on how to gather files make all the difference.

Can I ask all posters to stay on topic please as off-topic posts are a rather selfish way of disrupting the flow of an existing topic, if you feel you have something besides the topic to discuss please start a new topic, thank you all.

@cobra" Sam, who cares if the features aren't a "must have" or just conveniences?"

No one does...
I was merely pointing out the fact that there needs to be a working client in the first place to have any features added to it. (other than winmx)
That's all.

It would be nice to have these and many more features added, however, until a client actually arrives, it is pretty much useless to discuss about what would be nice to have or add. That's my opinion.

However as I said in my first post, no one can stop people from airing their views. :)

@ "finding which user uploaded which file"
As someone correcty mentioned, mx moniter does have this feature. I just double checked this.

@savable list of what's there.

this is by no means a proper solution, but I suppose there are various indexers avaiable (search on google). You can use those to sort out the files you have, search them, rename them, sort them etc.
An example would be itunes.but then I'm sure something more useful will be there.

Personally speaking , I usually sort out all the files I have :) so I remember more or less what I have.
Put in 3 folders: songs, videos and others :P. But then I am not everyone :P
Btw, if you want a few tools to help you sort your files/etc, post a message here, I have 2 really awesome tools (one for tags and otehr for file names)
I practically can sort out 100+ files in 1 go with these apps. :S

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

Spread the word now :)

Not major software changes but a few idea's from the not so technical part of the comunity are a welcome site, im sure you would agree sirmoon.

Certainly.  Very few if any of these features can really be expected to make v1.0 (when I actually have the time to get it built) but this is a good list to have around.

I personally would like to see better transfer options like the abilty to open extra slots of mp3 files. etc, i know i hate it when i see in my que 4 slots uploading movies and some poor soul wanting 5mb stuck at the bottom of a 80+ list. I always start these little folk but i cant be stuck in front of the computer all day. And well moni etc for me is just not a option.

I've toyed with the idea of adding a few queueing customizations, such as "trading" and prioritizing friends.  As for this specific scenario, I might provide the option to have a "weighted" queue instead of a normal one.  In a "weighted" queue, "lighter"/smaller files would naturally rise to the top over time.

I would like to see customizable right click commands from the user list.

MoonMX already supports an old KM extension for downloading menu items from the server, which makes much more sense than making the user edit their menus.  So I would say, lobby your server programmer to support it.   I documented it much better than KM ever did, in the core section of the site.
If they don't have access to that section, ask QuickSilver for the hook-up.

The really highspeed, programmer types can use the /rawuser command in certain servers to send custom menu commands to MoonMX without even having new server software, and some bot scripters may wish to pursue that route.

It would be nice to view more then 3000 files on secondary and 5000 on primary, for alot of people have alot more files to share.

It would, but that's going to require widely deployed primary protocol updates.

1) In the right-click options of a fils that I am sharing, a "Search for Alternates" option to see if anyone else is offering the same file that I am. Of the image files that I offer, two get downloaded far more (by 1000% at least) than any other and I don't really know why. It might help if I could do an instant hash search for the file. Easier than saving the hash somewhere, finding it, pasting it, etc.

WinMX 3.54 already has this.  It will probably show up in MoonMX eventually, but is not on the v1.0 list.

2) Either read from one/multiple folder(s) on my hard drive or read from a text file if faster a collection of files' hashes of my choosing. Currently if I search, incomplete and queued files show up in the searches. That is basically pointless to me because if I am trying to complete a file, I just use "Find sources now" and/or "Search for Alternates". What I want is for searches of files that I have completed to come up *as read from the text file or folder) so that I don't download the same already-completed file a second time.

Basically, you want it to highlight completed files that aren't in your library.  Well naturally my first question is, why aren't they in your library?  ; P

Maybe.

3) When browsing a collection, I would love the ability to pause or stop the loading of the file list. As a dail-up user, it takes over a minute or two for a 3000 file list to load. In the meantime, loading the list seems to suck up all or most of my bandwidth which causes queues to time out and downloading files to cancel.

Stopping the list is easily implemented, but then to see the rest you'd have to reload it from scratch again.  Being able to resume a browse list would require widely deployed primary protocol updates.

id like a feature that can detect corrupt mp3s either as they download or before they even start (for instance when searching the file can be marked as 'corrupt' or 'glitchy')

im getting tired of downloading an mp3 only to find it having glurps or flurps or other underwater sounds (cant rewind by xx bits, stream corrupt: resyncing) in it and have to find another source and download again... (if there is another source)

Well of course there's a difference between detecting corrupt or badly-encoded files (can't rewind by xx bits, stream corrupt: resyncing) and "detecting" poor-quality files (glurps or flurps or other underwater sounds).  One is within the realm of possibility of actually being detected by software.  The other would require adding some feature where you could rate the file you downloaded, so that other users could see your rating and decide to go with a different file.

The feature i have been wishing for for awhile now is the ability to sort a browse by file type.

Already in MoonMX.  The file extension has its own column in every view.

As I understand it, Search currently only searches the file name, but searching mp3 ID tags would be useful, too.

It would.  Once again, widely deployed primary protocol updates.  A quick explanation of this phrase for everyone I've used it with - it means that first it will take some time for me to even have primary support in MoonMX (which is on the table, just not soon), then I'd have to design the actual feature, then most or all of the entire MX network would have to upgrade to my new version before most people could use the feature reliably.  So this is a synonym for "far in the future" ; )

I may have to bookmark this thread...

The more snippets i see from you sir moon the more exciting this is starting to sound. Are you at any sort of viewing stage, im hungry even for a few snap shots if not a play with a early alpha?

I put out a "beta" not worthy of the name over a year ago.  It bares little resemblance to the current version, and is generally useless.

What little I put out in the way of screenshots and news is usually in the "WinMX Compatible Clients" forum.

That reminds me, I'm overdo a bad news post.  Two of the first features I advertised, big features both, are not going to make v1.0.
