It seems an RIAA lackey company believes it does not have to obey the law and is willing to faces criminal sanctions over its illegal privacy invading IP harvesting techniques.
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080824-business-as-usual-as-mediasentry-ignores-michigan-complaints.htmlA recently-filed lawsuit against seven unnamed Michigan residents shows that MediaSentry continues its investigative activities despite a March ruling that it is required to be licensed as a private investigator under Michigan state law.
A University of Michigan student is continuing to press the Michigan DLEG to take action against MediaSentry. In a letter dated August 14, the anonymous student (who signs his letters "Case #162983070") brings the continued activities of MediaSentry to the DLEG's attention. "Unfortunately, for myself and other students and individuals across the state, Media Sentry has not only ignored your agency's directive to secure a license but has also continued to actively investigate my personal activities well after it was informed of its legal obligation to secure a license from your agency for such actions".
So on one hand the RIAA tell you and your folks that they are all criminals if they so much as look at a file sharing program and on the other it seems they employ a range of dubious companies to act illegally such as mediadefender, mediasentry and bayTSP, by logging or flooding p2p networks, one can only boggle at the mindset of those who cannot view the hypocrisy of their actions.
