Just cannot upload
« on: October 03, 2005, 11:48:15 pm »
 Since winmx went off-line, and despite all the amazing efforts of everyone to revive it, I simply cannot manage to get it uploading again. Downloads will start fine, but no matter what I try it won't upload...just keeps timing out after "waiting for incoming connection" for ages. All the people in my queue must think I'm deliberately not sharing or something which is just not the case. I'm running 3.53. I've read and re-read all the advice in here. Followed all the steps about ensuring there is access through the XP firewall etc. It was never a problem before. Should I try upgrading to the latest beta ? I'm at my wits end now and I don't want those RIAA f#ckers to beat me !!!

I am having the same problem.  I have been having the problem for a long time now...I don't remember when it worked correctly.  Most of my uploads get timed out or aborted, but some of them do work.  It happens with open nap and winmx peer.  I have no firewall and have tried many different ports in the router.  I don't have any problems downloading.  I have heard it could be my isp blocking certain ports, but I don't know if that is the problem because I tried so many different ports.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  I have been trying to get this problem fixed for a long time with no avail.
Thanks,
Chick

Well i can tell you its not the router if anyone gets through.. or the firewall..

Ports are not exactly like doors they are more  like locks its either locked or unlocked there is no inbetween..

Here are some port choices that I have found to be helpful and increase your uploads

any numbers between 58000 and 61000

Give  those a try and let me know.. dont forget you have to change them in the router also and make sure that in the  router you have 2 seperate ports listed.  It wont work to set a range and list BOTH as the protocol..

Let me know..

Port Forwarding
« Reply #4 on: October 10, 2005, 05:15:06 pm »
I'm behand a NAT and have automatic in place. With 4 machines it seems that the numbers change as one or the other is turned off and restarted. My Lynksys ony has spots for 10 forwarding spots I think.  If I need to identify 4 X 2 ports and already have 4 used for other progs like bit torrent, how do I make it work? I tried the whole keep each as it's own address locally but fouled that up royally. Nothing worked after that and I had to start over. Oh, and did I mention I'm a trial and error guy and really don't know what I'm doing?

Just an update, sorry for the double post:
WinMX is working for me better now than it ever has before.  Almost all of my uploads connect. I am using port 12204 for tcp and 12206 for udp.  I don't know if the fix i am uxing is only for Windows XP users, or if it will work with any OS.  Sherwood is the BEST, I wish i had it before now, I can't beleive the amount of ip's blocked...Constantly!  When winmx first went down, I tried using EMule...Get this...after only using it for ONE day, I got an email from my isp saying this:

Needless to say...After pannicing...I uninstalled EMule immediatly.  I NEVER ran into problems like that with WimMX.  My isp took care of everything...thank goodness, but it scared the crap out of me to say the least.
WinMX and Sherwood are the best thing that ever happened to P2P.
