The roll out of ADSL2 continues on.

The update brings expected Ready For Service (RFS) dates for a further 1200 telephone exchanges nationwide.
WBC, as we discuss at length in our guide, is BT’s next generation wholesale product that is sold to ISPs. It is over this product that many ISPs who do not have a LLU network of their own will use to deliver ADSL2+ services (up to 24Mbps).
There is a list available at the link above of the dates that exchanges are expected to be upgraded, although it looks from the list recently published by BT that inner city areas are their main priority for the upgrade.
In more worrying news it seems a tightening of belts is going on at BT

The cuts will mainly affect agency and contract staff and offshore workers, the company said. The company said it had already cut 4,000 jobs, leaving a further 6,000 to go by the end of March. BT has a global workforce of 160,000.
However, the job losses, which will lead to lower costs, cheered investors. BT shares were up 12%, or 13.5 pence, at 126p
