A Rhode Island couple whose son is accused of illegally sharing songs online should not be forced to surrender their home computer for inspection because it would violate their right to privacy, their lawyer argued at a federal court hearing Tuesday.

This is rather intresting, at the end of the day a PC is like a diary, It should also come under the fact that you do not have to incriminate yourself. In the UK, i dont know about the US, but if you ahve a encrypted drive, you do not have to give the key if it could incriminate you. An actual PC should come under this too. If they cant prove you did anything via evidence when they first accuse you of it, it sure as hell shouldnt be they can accuse you of it, take your PC, then get their evidence.

I see the usual propaganda here at work, folks this case has nothing to do with downloading, uploading is what they are going to court over, as most of you know news sites seem not to care about the difference but one is legal and the other is up to them to chase up, if you see anyone claiming downloading is illegal jump all over their articles or reports as its very likely recording industry propaganda, something we have to guard against.
