VIRTUAL ITUNES GIFT CERTIFICATES to the value of $200 are on sale in Chinese shopping site for as little as $2.60.Music industry consultancy Outdustry is reporting that thousands of cards are on sale at any given time on Taobao, the Chinese equivalent of Ebay. The owner of the online shop told Outdustry that the codes were obtained using key generation (keygen) software and admitted that he had paid hackers to do the dirty work.Gift voucher codes are sent using the site's instant messaging software and are paid for using Alipay, which operates much like Paypal and is used by the majority of the Chinese banking system.Apple could stay on top of the crims by refreshing the algorithm used to generate its purchase codes, but that could leave it with millions of invalid cards out in the wild which would need to be recalled and scrapped.
