my cousin showed me gatornap or gator w/e this used to be when i was 9 and ive used it ever since. when i turn 18 in september ill have spent half my life on winmx. not sure whether this is something to be sad over to celebrate or just accept as a fact and go on that people are easily addicted to the net as easy as they are opiates.

just the same as having played galaga, pole position, asteriods, original mario, sonic the hedgehog (genesis versions), etc when these games were new or semi new says i grew up in the 8 and 16bit age of gaming... (asteroids is actually a bit older than that but it was still a popular arcade staple when i was growing up..) and that im a bit old....

really? i went from not just an atari but also an odessy2 to an original nintento my uncle gave me and then to an N64 major feature shock. now i look back at the games and play them on emulators and just wonder what was so amazing about the graphics. guess you notice more whn you are younger.about the only need games i like are things like need for speed aside from that i still play dopewars quake and heavy gear on POSIX systems (lately its been BSD nano/monolithic hybrid types)

atari, odessy2, and nes... but you didnt get them 'new' .... granted i didnt play the atari but a close cousin: the mattel intellivision... when it was still new....

going backwards is one thing... seeing it from the start is another...

Everyone grows up able to look back (even if it is not so significant) and sees the fads that they have lived through and the things that have listed so much longer that they can't remember days before them. Like Stripes, I grew up when home consoles (and also chome computers) were the new, latest, and greatest toys.

Looking back it stuns me how much time that I spent playing them with none of that mattering at all now. (I don't bask in the glory of my high scores, for instance),

If anything, you should be more stunned that The Simpsons cartoon tv series has been on longer than you are old!

i cant really recall any fads from the 90's that havent faded out besides listening to britny spears. most of them are still popular in europe but as has anyone else i have noticed the rapper crap thats gotten BIG since 2000

i remember the skate board taking off big time in the 90,s   although this has now settled into its place
i also remember rubiks cube taking off in a huge way (maybe even befor the ninites)
dam we even had a comp to see who was fastest at out school       lol

the last fad i re-call being a part of was POGS,  little round disks you hit with a plastic disk and if they spun over you kept them. now thats easily 11-12 years ago lol. An my first proper first computer that was mine from new was the james bond edition spectrum, id had a atari thing before that someone gave me with grey keys on and i took hours copying the code out the book to make it do a rediculous picture or landscapes.  My first PC though i still have, under the stairs, An old 900Mhz amd athlon. And it was working as a cache box till only about 12 months ago till i retired it for being noisy lol.

lucky boy. i was given an apple e2 and a dot matrix printer
somewhere around 95 i got a pentium 1 133mghz wich eventually failed on me and then my dad gave me a 433 celeron that i still use for testing linux distros and on occasion as a file server.

actually its LOAD "$",8  --- if you put a ,1 after that it just writes garbage to the screen since '$' isnt binary... (,1 is for loading and saving binary data... more specifically the ASM program and its memory map information... BASIC programs didnt need the ,1 since they could be loaded anywhere, under the 32k barrier, into memory and werent really binary..)

you would then type 'list' after that....

and thats for a directory listing... not a backup

would be a better idea to use a disk sector copy program for backup (and two drives if you dont like switching disks) rather than the load/save method...
