Piracy Issues

Hi guys, long time WinMX user, first time poster.
I woke up this morning to find an IM blinking at me from my monitor.  It was a message from a user (green_snake, or something to that effect) who claimed to be a member of the Recording Industry of Japan (I'm an Australian currently residing in Japan), basically telling me to cease and desist in my illegal downloading and distribution of licensed media.   :shock: The webpage green_snake referred me to (http://www.riaj.or.jp/piracy/winmx/ for those of you who can read Japanese) informed me that if I did not immediately stop using WinMX to illegally distribute media in such a manner, that I would be prosecuted.
Anyone else out there come accross this sort of thing?

I got that im too....nice to know they're spamming us.  Not really scared....but more interested in what technologies they are targeting us w/ b/c the im had my ip address and winmx username.

Trust me "they" dont have time to sit down and send you messages on WinMX however, some bored individuals prolly do... :roll:

First of all, "they" wouldnt send you a warning.. there is no money to be made in that, if they cant fine you $3000.00 for downloading something they think was you  :roll: , from an address they think is yours  :roll: , of a file they think you have  :roll: .. there is no money in that type of extortion...


Second of all, the way they connect is by using software made to integrate into the Network, not actual users

There are some really ermm.. disturbed individuals out there that like to play games with your mind.. next time send em a message back that says

"Hey you asshole this is Cary Sherman from the MPAA and you work for me, dont threaten me or I will fire you.  And please dont mention that you saw me here on WinMX at the next board meeting."
