Sounds like you have an issue with ports, do you have a router by any chance?

many, i'd venture to say *most* recent dsl modems include this function without it being stated obviously.. see if it's listed on the routers page at www.portforward.com

alternatively open a command prompt & issue the command ipconfig
then visit http://www.checkip.org/
if the two ip addresses don't match you have a router

Well Blunder is probably correct, the IP's are different.

My DSL Modem is a Versalink 327W.
and the IP's were different using IPConfig and CheckIp.org.

side note:
I recently upgraded my OS from Win98 to Windows2000 PRO.

Using Win98, I never had any problems. So the major changes I have made
are upgrade to 2000 PRO and install newest patch.

WinMX connects right away and searches come up . Just can never get a DL connection

What should i do on my end ?

The versalink is in fact a router, follow this link to configure it to work with WinMX

Rogi,

You can (and probably did have) WinMX set up in what we call 'passive secondary mode'  This means that on the Settings in WinMX you didnt have ports specified and this will let you download and upload to anyone that 'DOES' have ports set up.  WinMX requires that one or both users have ports set up in WinMX Settings > Incoming TCP and In/Out UDP and thier routers or firewalls.

Its likely that you had those two settings ticked on 'Unable to '  this would work as stated for most transfers.  Its not ideal but if you cant get this working you can always set those to Unable, restart WinMX and things should be ok for about 80% of transfers.

this sounds like for some reason you're seeing fakes... if you didn't get your winx/patch from https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html then the first thing i suggest is that you pick one of the installers off that page & run it..
if you're still having problems after that i suggest dropping into the help chatroom

Hi, I have been using WinMX version 3.54 beta 4 and it has been working fine but about 1 week ago I went to use it and it won't connect.
Under the networks button the connections status just flashes yellow and says finding network connections and just does that forever with ever connecting and turning green
Can somebody please help.

I fixed the problem. I unmarked the box that said use SOCKS 4 Proxy and marked the box that said don't use Proxy server, connect directly. Don't know what it all means but played around until I got it to work.

as he said.. he fixed it.. having it set to use a proxy will break it every time.. unless you have a proxy to use & have configured it.. even then it would break fake filtering

For the record I did actually install the patch first no no avail. I remember a few years ago when winmx was shut down or something, I donloaded a pathc  which got things running again. Sometimes I go months with using winmx but it's good to know it's there when I need it. I have always found it the best for my requirements.

Masklike, you need to forward your ports for winmx to run
GO to www.portforward.com and find your router model there. A tutorial on how to forward ports for winmx is given there.

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

I have never heard of Portforward.com ever charging for their guides. Try and go here, select the router that you have, and follow the steps in the guide.
