how can u find things ur looking for if all you see is codes? I have always wondered this and decided to ask here! To me that is as bad as not sharing!

Can you explain what you mean roguesblight1963. What are you seeing that is in code format and where is it that you are looking. I and anyone else here will try and help and shed as much light on your question as possible.

like when u browse thru someones files or when ur doing a search. the files are just a bunch of symbols and such.

I believe that what you are seeing is files that Japanese users are sharing. On their end they see their language, but on your end, you see question marks and other symbols.

Since the subject has been brought up, when I Browse I sometimes see things like this: 75982785309580.mp3 ; all numbers, you see.

I have always figured that is is done to add to their file sharing count, without risking that anyone would actually bother to download anything from them. Am I right to think this is likely?

if the file names look something like this ôñÍü²»µôµÄÉË£Ô°æ£½ªÓñÑô¡¶Íü²»µôµÄÉË¡·¡¶Íü²»µôµÄÉË¡
then steps in Reply #4 will enable you to view multibyte characters correctly in their native language if it is Japanese (it may be a different Asian language)
and you can read Japanese that is.. otherwise useless to you.. (the guide suggests changing the font which is unnecessary too, will show fine without that step.)
However it will also, mean when you try and install programs many will want to use Japanese as the default language,
and also it will completely change the appearance of winmx chatrooms and all the users with characters like ôñÍü²»µôµÄÉË£Ô°æ£½ªÓñÑô¡¶Íü²»µôµÄÉË¡·¡¶Íü²»µôµÄÉË¡
in their usernames will instead of showing (as example ôxyAñdy will show as 哈yAn无疑y) and therefore if you use chatrooms drive you nuts..

I assume you are just asking as a general question and not really having a problem with it..
Many Japanese users may rename an English movie to their native language and still upload those files, so it does not mean they are not sharing..
you can still connect to many of them (even though the file has a different name to original English name) and get great speeds.
You often connect to these users by finding sources and never know the name is different.

Trestor, if people have renamed files they downloaded from winmx to strange filenames then the same will apply as above..
the hash is the same, so if their strange named file matches a file you are trying to get then winmx wont care about the name and connect you to that user..
Many users may simply get the files that way, too.. and have not gotten around to renaming the files yet, various websites supply the files this way..
Especially when the file is Asian and 'had' originally an Asian title.. Asian characters don't work well in web addresses such as http://somesite/哈哈哈.mp3 so they replace the characters with numbers..
