Primary Connection does not provide for Searches
« on: November 04, 2005, 02:08:40 pm »
Hi,
I can do searches in Secondary Connection but not in Primary.
I have recently gone to DSL with a Westell Wireless router/modem.
I have the built-in hardware Firewall set to "None"
I have Port Forwarding set for both the TCP and UDP addresses.
I use Norton 2005 Antivirus - only.
WinXP Firewall is NOT enabled.
Must be missing something ?????
Advice/Help greatly appreciated.
Thankx

We advise everybody to run their machines with some kind of firewall, as there are many computer nasties that can take advantage of not doing so, if my memory serves me correctly though you have one built into Norton 2005 labled as "Worm protection" that has caused folks problems before as many do not know its there, perhaps if you have a peek through and make sure WinMX is on the allow list of applications.

How is the chat room listing, can you get that ok ?

For those without a proper firewall:

I would advise anyone to use the free sygate firewall version that many of the winmx users swear by, being free as well as simple to operate.

Thanks for the tip re: Sygate.
Norton Worm already had WinMX Frontcode allowed as "Automatic"

Any advice / insight as to why I get searchs in Secondary - but not with Primary Connection?

Usually no search results on a primary connection is directly related to the ports that WinMX uses being blocked.  A secondary connection will function without the ports being opened.

Most cases of this are a router/dsl modem that needs to be configured to allow WinMX.

Some folks find that the XP Firewall or Norton security is blocking them..

If you have a router or dsl modem have a look at this link to get you on your way to opening the correct ports..
