« on: November 09, 2005, 05:29:06 pm »
I read the topic about the fire wall zone alarm pro and how to get it work whit winmx. But my problem is that I dont have the pro version.
Is there anyone thats knows how to get that work with winmx? and if thats not the answere to my problem, is there any other sollution to my problem?

I install winmx a couple a days ago and in the beginning it work just fine but now nobody can download from me. They al go in time out in after 10 min.

And my other question is what the best connection to make?

I hope somebody can help me with this problem. I have been trying my ass of to get it work, so I can share my files whit everyone.

And I want 2 say thanx to al the folks who made it possible that winmx is online again.

cinsel hello and welcome

I wanted to let you know we have been working on finding a translator that can help you in your Dutch language you posted in earlier.  Sorry that we havent been able to locate someone for that yet.

About your Zone Alarm, yes this could be a problem for your uploads, but is not usually the cause.

WinMX needs to be added to your 'Trusted Zones' on your firewall.  The exact way I am not sure.  I will try to locate that information for you.

Could you tell me a bit more about your set up:
Do you have a router?
Are you on secondary or primary connection to WinMX.
What operating system do you use 98, ME, XP?

Do you have Norton 2005 installed?

If your on a secondary connection to WinMX could you tell me what it says in Settings > Internet Connections > Incoming TCP?
and.. In/Out UDP ?

Thanks..

Okay I found this guide to the Zone Alarm Free Edition and the Pro..

Have a look here and let me know if you find it useful, if so I will add it to the site tutorials in the firewall sections when I have time.

http://wiki.shareaza.com/static/FAQ.FirewallsRouters.ZoneAlarm

Okay in looking at the information you gave me my first thought is to check the Windows Firewall to make sure its off or at least make sure that the ports are set in it as well.

If its on and you need a guide to the ports try here:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewall.html

Also if your on a primary do you get good search results and room list results?

Ok let me know what you find out on these for now ..ty

thank you so much.

I check out the side where it say what to do whit zone alarm. And so far so good. some people are uploading my files. so I guess it works.
my windows firewall is off, I already checkt that out. do I still have to insert these ports than??

about the primary connection, that works just fine. the search results are oke.

I thank you so very much for helping me out.

If you ever need help to translate dutch topics ( as long its not to much computer slang) you know where to find me.

Glad to hear your working ok now..

If you dont have the XP Firewall enabled then No you dont need to put the rules into it.
The darn thing has a habit of turning itself on at times when you least expect it, so if you did have the ports set in it that might save you trying to find whats caused WinMX to stop working later, IF that ever happens to you.  Its definitely not necessary though as long as you remember to look at then when you have problems...

By room list I meant the Chat Channel Lists, these dont load well on primary for some folks anyway, but its also a sign of WinMX not working right on a primary connection if you get no results here either..

About that translating.... Be careful what you offer me, I have a habit of taking folks up on those offers...
And would love to have a few of our tutorials in your language ...

Well I can help with some of the computer terms but for the most part the ones I would really love to have done are not real technical info, just basic informations.

I will put the links here and you can look at them, then you can pm me if you have any questions  :D

PeerGuardian Installations:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/peerguardian.html
PeerGuardian Adding the Block Lists:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/block_the_riaa.html

Sherwood Blocking Program:
https://forum.winmxworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=337

Some day I would love to have all languages for the basics of WinMX tutorial but that might be more then you want to tackle ...

Let me know if these are possible..

I`m glad to help.

But I have some qeustions.

Is it nessesary to have open de pay site for winmx anytime when winmx is runnig in the back? Because my computer runs very slowly when I have that runnig in the back.

And the turorial I translated from peerguardian............ I dont have installed that on my comp. Because I already have a firewall, do I need to install that?

Do I have to install more inportant stuff to keep winmx running?

And from what I understand is that the primary connection is beter than the secondary.  The primary works fine for me so that oke then?

Thanx so far, the other translation is comming soon.

Cinsel again thanks for your help with that tutorial I need you to translate this line for me please

"Translated for us by Cinsel, Much thanks for their contributions!"

I am wanting to add that to the bottom, but couldn't do it myself.

To answer your questions

The pay sites for WinMX:  These are sites that charge people to download WinMX.  Its horrible what they do, especially recently with so many unknowing folks that just wanted MX back.  So one of our moderators and dear friends set up that site.  You do NOT Have to let that run, especially for folks that may have slow or limited connections.
Its just a way for us to help those companies use up their bandwidth limits per month to hopefully make them go away!

If your on a primary its very important that you use some method to block the RIAA from your connections on WinMX.  They connect to you as a secondary, and unless your an expert at detecting them you wouldnt even know, but they use your bandwidth to flood fakes onto the network.
There are four ways to block them
Peerguardian with our added block list
Sherwood
Our !install 1.9 connection patch
Or your own firewall with the added IPs from our block list.

If your using our patch you wont need anything else.  If your using a hosts file to connect to mx then yes using Peerguardian or Sherwood is best.

That is all of the additional programs that you might need for your WinMX on a primary connection.

Yes, being a primary that works fine is great!  Your not only getting great results from a great connection but also helping to support the network!

Hope that helps you a bit..

Thats oke I dont need my name under it. I did it to help my dutch friends.

I install the peerguardian 2.  + the block and allow list. So I`m all save now.
The patch I already did install. I dont know really what a host file is, so I just install the peerguardian just to be sure.

Oke I`m out of here got lots of thing to do.

Thanx again.
