Cast-Away?

There i was, blissfully sailing along on my big, big pet sea tortoise (named 56K- DU), all wind in the air stuff for 12 hours uninterupted, and then- WHAM! We slammed into one heckuva big wave called timed-out waiting for incoming connection.

As we frantically scrambled to stay alive, we noticed that the ppl who are trying to connect to us, have a similar problem. We were fortunate enough to safely land on an island called WinMXWorld. I took out my pirate binocs and scanned the island for help; a quick search did not deliver. Fresh tracks on the island tho', tell me it's not deserted. Everybody must be looking for buried treasure? Wow, now that's a great idea!

I opened the treasure map that i just happened to have on me, when suddenly 56K-DU grabbed it and !^$^%$^$ all over it! Wonder what's wrong with him..?

Thankfully, now i have time to lie down on the beach and look at the beautiful scenery and... as my mind drifts off, i was wondering why on earth would a perfectly healthy incoming connection suddenly die like that and where does its spirit go?

Please be an angel and tell me?  :P

Well Tso this is one I have pondered myself.  I have watched these poor souls slowly die many times, and sat at the keyboard doing everything possible to save them.

Even CPR - Continue Pressing Retry

Some are saved and some are not..
I myself believe in re-incarnation, and am sure that some of my dead downloads are downloads I knew in another time, or that some of them are reborn to new downloads waiting for Network replies...

.. i did not miss that one.

Note: i am not selling this as any type of panacea, but i resolved this "problem" (so far) with a quick restart of WinMX, which seems to lose its bearings a bit when it runs on for too long a time :P

Whilst on the subject of troubleshooting: There is one other WinMX feature that does not work properly in my case, and its the "browse" feature, which allows one to browse the contents of another users shared folder. In my case, i am met with an empty browse window most of the time when i am browsing users, particularly those on OpenNap servers. The thing is, when this happens (and only if i know in which WPN chat room to find a partular user whose shared folder i'm unable to browse in opennap) i go find the user in his WPN chat room, click on his username and start to browse the shared folder - without mishap.

Anyone with similar experiences that may be able to offer an explanation/solution?

Thanks!

Hey Tso,

Here is a thread that has some of the same info in it, not sure if you can consider this a solution really but may help you to understand it more..
