i now use winmx 3.a and am going to upgrade to 3.54.
then i was wondering.
could i keep them both and then have them both running at the same time?
why?
well i have movies and music to share and the movies take a while and people who want music files have to wait longer while movies upload.
i wanted to keep them separate so i would have video files ul/dl in one instance and the music on another.
think this is possible?

Theres one method...

If you can run a VM, you can install a suitable o/s then winmx with that.

Windows 7-64bit offers XP mode, which is a good example, windows 7 itself will run one instance of winmx, and then using the XP mode, which is a VM, that will also run WinMX, thus the 2 instances of MX on one PC.

Other than that, I know of no way to run 2 instances, altho someone else may know of a means

Then you can run 3.54b4 for both instances, and have the best library options (why keep the old version anyway?)

sounds nice.
but i have winmx, 32-bit.
virtual pc or virtual box is an option but no installation discs and
with only 80G internal HD setting up the second OS would use up HD space which i do not have right now.

there is a program that you can use to open 2 or more winmx's at same time on same pc
its called PlusMx and made by Emulator, the creator of WPCC

you will need to add the different ports in your router if you use one, as each winmx needs its own port settings
you will also need to add the Eagle connection patch to each winmx folder

i just downloaded the stand-alone version.
does PlusMx have a user guide?
i noticed the site is in Italian

isn't the patch in the Winmx3.54b file?
so from what you said i will, as i figured, have two separate winmx app folders and i m guessing they will have to be named something different when installing them.

when you install it, it adds like 10 winmx folders, each has a winmx exe in it, you will need to add the patch to each folder to connect them,
they will auto configure ports in their settings, for you to set in router,
there isnt a user guide, i didnt do one when i tested PlusMx some months ago.

yes a few anti-virus programs flag it as a trojan, this is because it is in effect a hack to allow more than 1 WinMx to run,
it will not harm your pc like some trojan's can,

at one point, avg & avast see WinMx as a trojan & zone alarm sees fx server 1.3.10 as a malicious trojan
