The British coalition goverment is not looking to repeal the controversial act.

The government has again said it has no plans to repeal the Digital Economy Act (DEA), despite complaints from ISP's BT and TalkTalk.

These two broadband providers have been granted the right to a judicial review of the piece of legislation, with each insisting it infringes the basic rights and freedoms of internet users in the way it seeks to clamp down on illegal filesharing.

But despite this, the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition is not looking to scrap the act, which was passed in the final few days of the Labour government, reports the Independent.

A spokesman from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills said: "The government believes the DEA is consistent with EU legislation and contains sufficient safeguards to protect the rights of consumers and internet service providers."

TalkTalk's strategy and regulation chief Andrew Heaney has argued the act is "disproportionate", although he has insisted the company is not opposed to the battle against illegal filesharing.

So all those protests about this legislation by the politicians when they were in opposition were just for show.  :gum:

I can see you have forgotten what the conservatives are all about DBK

For the rest of you who are not in the UK and dont understand the joke the conservatives last turn as a government left 3 million unemployed and took trillions of dollars of assets from the publicly owned portfolio and sold then thus ensuring we have over the last 25 years been paying foreign corporations for our own resources, the problem for the conservatives this time around is there is nothing much left to steal so they are stealing directly off the public by imposing super high taxes and cutting services and all to pay off the debt incurred by their banker buddies not labours debts as  is often claimed by the current prime minister, anyone who looks at the British debt graph prior to the bank bailouts can see the lie of such claims, what ever happened to honest politicians ?

My apologies for this off topic rant but these buffoons are so transparent in misleading the UK populace so please dont expect them to honour any of their pre election pledges especially the one about allowing the locals to force a by-election if politicians break their pledges, the entire government would end up on the dole if they did so
