Strange, strange dua(list)ic behaviour?
« on: November 18, 2005, 01:54:19 am »
Uploading a shares list to opennap servers shows the following strange behaviour:

On some servers, once the connection is made, the shares list is uploaded normally i.e. countdown continues to zero at which time the server turns "green" (maybe it ate the wrong stuff). Simultaneously, on others, when the server connects, the list is uploaded to a point where it just stops shortly ater beginning the list upload (showing for e.g. "957 left to send") .. and freezes in the "yellow" (too scared?) state. The servers all stop uploading the list at the same number (e.g. 957) in the list.

Anyone with a solution, please?

Further to my previous post, it appears that i am now getting banned from some of the the servers (ones i used to connect to regularly), without cause, because with an incomplete list upload and the eventual server timeout, the servers "think" i am not sharing enough files (maybe 1 file or a few more that were uploaded before it "froze") to join the network, when indeed i am.

How do i get myself unbanned? What are the server commands for that? What is the "channel" the server "help" refers to? (/* <channel>)

if they all stop at the same point then it could be a specific file that there is a problem with, try unsharing then share the files again bit by bit and see if you can identify a specific file causing a problem

Hi KM, i've deleted the whole lot and put the backup in place, but it still does the same thing. Other servers do upload the list no problem whatsoever.  Still, i will follow the process of elimination you've suggested as well.. i tried to sidestep that one, it's a daunting task..

Thanks for your advice.

I've checked the list, still no go. Some servers take the list easy and others take just the first few files before freezing and eventually recycling the connection. I've went as far as re-installing V1.9 (3.54b4). Results the still same. I get a lot of different server messages on these servers (once it's disconnected/connection attempts are stopped), for e.g. "valid name, no data of requested type". If only i knew how to contact the server admin to try and resolve this, it would have been a bonus.

Your thoughts on this are very much appreciated..

If you right click on a server name in the list and hit "edit" you'll get some additional options, try setting the last one for instance  "send files using obsolete '100' command" .
I don't have much experience with this, but maybe the servers don't like the way you send the file lists...
You could also try sending another client version, maybe they don't like 3.54 beta or so - just explore some of these options :)

:) thanks- had tried all of that without success. I usually get in the in the 50's number of files loaded before the uploading stops and freezes. Should i then disconnnect from the server before the connection times out on its own, then try to re-connect, the server tells me there is already somebody with that name online...

Footnote: The same thing happens when trying to log in onto the winmxunlimited servers i.e. the shares are not uploaded and the connection (login) eventually fails..

Anyone from winmxunlimited with a solution, please?

So the monologue continues:

I have now narrowed the problem down to this:

The servers which perpetuate the problem, all load approx the first 55-56 files of the list before stopping and eventually disconnecting. In such cases when i try to reconnect, the server would state that a user with that name is already online.

I have so far replaced the list, loaded only one folder and grdually increasing the number, tried different folders, the whole 9 yards thing.

I have now loaded only 67 files> With only 12 of it remaining, the servers stop to load the list, and eventually returns to the connection cycle..

Anyone?

Well, thanks for only posting a link that doesn't work anymore.  I am having this very same problem and your solution is now a complete mystery.  This is the only hit on the entire internet for "left to send".  :|

After messing around a bit with my setting in my server, I realised the problem. It happens when the server traffic bandwidth is saturated....
This has not happened to me in the absence of any throttles but then again, my server size (number of users) is indeed very small. It is more than likely that it happens a few times to those who may have just restarted their server or something...
But all you can do is disconnect from the server and mabye wait and connect after sometime, hoping that the bandwidth is somewhat free...

Cheers :P

But this issue doesn't exist in 3.53, so what's different in 3.54?

Peace,

you got me wrong.
Suppose you are connecting to my server.

It's the satuaration of my upload bandwidth that causes the problem and not the saturation of your upload bandwidth...

I think we still aren't in sync here, my good brother.  All these same servers accept my list without a problem when I run 3.53.  When I switch over to 3.54 beta... they all fail in the list sending department.  Something is different in 3.54, not with the servers.  That's my point.

I wish that guy hadn't just posted a frigging link, 'cuz it sounds like someone had a solution to this.  As long as they are stuck in limbo, I can't search them.

Peace,

The problme here is that you are trying to connect to too many servers at the same time, it may be that your upload or ram capacity or processor limit is reached or any sort of cache set on you computer. Most XP internet caches are not set correctly for dsl or cable. Their is tweaking software out thier but leave that if ya a noob.

When you connect to loads of servers at once you send all your details to them server's and if their is any lag etc or you dont send enough files in a allowed time set by the server, mine is 5 mins then alot of servers will kill you, It isnt a issue on my server as i dont have any file limits but alot of the bigger servers do to get rid of leechers and if you arent getting your files uploaded in time you are getting kicked and banned and that is why you get the user is already logged in. some servers will say your banned or others will say full.

So best advices i can give you is connect to fewer servers at once and give it time. the uploads on a heavy server might take sometime!!

Good Sir,

Even if I try just one server, it stops uploading my list (a measly 400+ files) after about 50 or so, and this takes a fraction of a second to occur.  It works fine with 3.53 with as many servers as I care to heap on the pile and only takes several seconds to upload the list to 20 servers.  If only I could discover the mystery of what our friend found before.  Obviously he found an answer and it worked.  Someone must know the mystery.  Something changed in 3.54 with respect to uploading files lists.

Peace,

It must be something about one of the files, because I switched to a different directory with fewer files and it seems to be working.  Hmmmm...

Do you have a firewall maybe your firewall might be detecting a flood. I have to admit now im guessing. I use 3.54 daily for all my administration of my server remotly and share some 800 files on 20 servers and never have a issue. i cant say that winmx would be to blame but a change in how the programme works slightly MAY make a firewall act diffrently.
