Did you know torrents allow for commenting on the file. Most of the time, if you read the comments people have posted about it, you will know if the file is bad or isn't what you were looking for. That is one very nice thing I like about torrents. If the comments are bad, I look for another download. If there is no comment, I will either download the file and be the first to let people know, or I will ignore it and find something else. I have downloaded more things on WinMX that weren't what they said they were, then on torrents because of this. Most of the time it would be a porn instead of the new release movie I was really trying to get.

I used a torrent site to download the "Buffy the vampire" series only to find that they had Dutch subtitles ... something that was not mentioned in the comments.

Within the last week I have used a torrent site to download the new Transformers movie ... 17 different downloads all with comments about how wonderful the quality was ... not one comment to tell me that the movie didn't work ... completed downloading every one of them to find when I ran it that it says it will only run on Windows Media Player ... play it with Media Player and get taken to a website which wants me to complete some offer before it will allow me to get the Codec to play it and then only to find that after completing the offer the movie wont play anyway.

At least with MX I DON'T have to waste my monthly download allowance getting a file that isnt what I want because when I download 1 or 2  meg of a 1 Gig file I can start it and see if it is what I want and if it will play, or not.

BUT that is getting off the topic ...

As a community we have to stand firm against this terrorist attack ... just as the people of USA did against the 911 attack and the people of England did against the bombing attack in London ... WE CAN NOT ALLOW THESE TERRORISTS TO WIN.

I think your problems come down to lack of experience with media codecs. If you get this codec pack:  http://www.free-codecs.com/k_lite_codec_pack_download.htm   you should be able to play anything you want.

However, VLC media player will play pretty much anything you throw at it video wise so I would give that a try as well. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

It also is true, and can be considered an advantage that with WinMX you can preview a file as it downloads in order, but the reason torrents are split into chunks is so that the file can be distributed faster to multiple people in the most efficient way possible.

Stevi is right with comments being an advantage, but there are indeed some un-reliable comments. However, a good semi-private torrent site like iptorrents should give you no worries if you so choose to continue on the router of using torrents. If you're more comfortable with WinMX you should just stick with that. If you need an iptorrents invite I can supply them via site pm.

Another personal attack on someone giving suggestions.  

You really should channel that extra energy into something productive like more time on your replacement client or the new patch. Criticizing informative and helpful posts on the forum, especially ones responding to someone else's inquiry and questions about torrents as well are media codecs is not the way to keep a community together. A community is a group of people living and working together. This includes exchanging ideas and information and people giving their own opinions. Not a single person in the community shall own everything. Everything is owned equally and everyone should have an equal chance to share their mind. Just as people listen to you Ghostship, you should do the same for others.

Stevi ,you may enjoy the regular spamming by REN room folks of this forum advertising torrents but I do not, does it not say WINMXWORLD at the top of the forum ?
It most certainly does not say TorrentWorld  and thus I for one am growing bored of such regular spam.


Josh when you stop covering up for winmx attackers I may well have more respect for you but as matters sit anything you say is treated with suspicion and therefore whilst people do still listen to me I want them to know your one of the lazy people who would rather aid the attackers than help in a solution, like most of the critics you have done nothing to help despite being a coder, so please don't make further suggestion to me what to do with my time when its thanks to people like yourself who cover up for the attackers we are where we are.

I would say the same about most of the posts made in the World News section of the forum. The posts about torrents are informative, and have something to do with p2p, again not all from the New section have any reference to p2p. Please do not ASSUME what I may and may not enjoy. I have simply stated that your attitude as an admin was not necessary, and the issue could have been handled differently. Aren't you the one always telling me about those kinds of things?

Please note it, and note that I am out. I am sick of holding what I have to say back in fear of you! Every time I try and speak my mind, you are sending me private messages telling me not to do it in public. I think the public has a right to know what I have to say. I also think that if we are to expect trust in the users, I feel as though we should trust them enough to discuss things like that with them and get their input. The chat room has gotten so out of hand from the beginning, nobody even talks in there in fear of being banned. Some admins I feel have been able to get away with almost murder, and I am talked down to because I speak my mind. Well so much for thinking thats what WinMXWorld encouraged...

Stevi is an intelligent thinker, a staunch supporter of WinMx and an asset to any group supporting WinMx.  She maintains a website devoted to WinMx and I've never once seen her be rude or ingracious in the several months I've known her now.

It's actions like Quicksilver's here today that inspired me to open SPAM in protest of the draconian leadership here at WMW.

Stevi's made some excellent points about transparency and accountability from which we can all learn.
