Hi Rush2112,

The patch should not need to be installed each time you use WinMX.  I think however that your confusing the 'Patch' with the WinMX program itself, these are two different things all together.  The Install 1.9 has both the patches needed and the WinMX program bundled.

When you install the Patch this will also give you the WinMX program if you didnt already have it.

This may indicate that you have two folders now that have WinMX installed in them, or that your running your WinMX.exe from a location such as your desk top.

To fix this delete all shortcuts from your desktop and start menu for WinMX,  Then you need to find the place that WinMX is stating from. Make sure you dont have a folder named C:\programs files\Winmx  .. if you do delete it.

Now install the Install 1.9  Patch with the new WinMX and it should place a desktop icon shortcut for you, and save your settings each time you exit for the next restart.

Let me know if you have problems ..

Rush where are you strating your WinMX from, a shortcut?

If yes could you do this for me, right click the desktop or start menu shortcut your using and choose properties then could you type out the full patch of the short cut here for me?

It sound like your running the WinMX program from your desktop, which has happened to a few folks that saved the Install 1.9 to desktop and installed it from there.

If this is the case you may also see a file called 'Settings.dat' on your desktop also..

Its hard to diagnose this problem your having without seeing it for myself, so also could you please tell me if you see a 'WinMX' folder in your program files folder?

"C:\Program Files\WinMX\WinMX.exe"
i saved the patch in my received files then i run the file from there and it loads it to the above location, the only thing on my desktop concerning winmx is the shortcut.

Humm strange indeed that you should have to reinstall anything.

Once the WinMX is set up in the Program files it will also deposit a 'Settings.dat' file into the WinMX Folder.  Any settings you have should be there each time you close or open the program..

This is really puzzling..

Okay,, *trying to understand this better*

When you say you have to reload from the patch each time, what exactly do you mean.
Is WinMX gone from your computer each time?
Or do you have to go through the WinMX set up again as if it was gone?

If WinMX cant find that 'Settings.dat' file when it starts, for example if there is only a WinMX.exe file inside the folder, it assumes you need to install, and begins the set up each time...

We need to find out where its saving your Settings.dat file to..

Not getting any search results can be for several reasons Rush, and reinstalling WinMX is not actually fixing that.

If your on secondary there are a few tricks I use to make sure I get optimum results when searching

Obviously I use the filters -user when I search to make sure that I get the best  reults without fakes, and to protect the primarys on the network.

I also wait at least 2 or 3 minutes before I do a search just to give WinMX time to communicate my shared files lists and other things needed to the primary, so that when I do my searches its the only activity going on.

If I get those times where no results come up after 5 minutes of trying I usually refresh my connection on the networks page.  There are many priamry users  right now on hosts file without protection from the Flooders and riaa cronies and other various connection problems that its possible if you refresh your network connection you may get better results.

If this all fails simply restart WinMX.  That is the part of what your doing now that is fixing it anyway.. no need to reinstall it just for this.

If your on a primary and getting no search results this could be your ports are not set up correctly or even possibly that you have set it up in your router or MX to use one port number for BOTH tcp and udp, the problem with this is that TCP connections will take priority over your udp and cause a conflict in theory.  So be sure your ports are ok in any router/dsl modem, firewall and WinMX also.

How big shoudl the 1.9 install file be???   I downloaded it several times, and it only takes a couple of seconds, but when every time I go to run it, I get the following error message:
The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or icomplete.  This could be the result of a damaged disk,a failed download or a virus.

The file size that I am getting is only 208 kb.  I am running W2K fully updated.

The file size should be 1.35mb for the install 1.9.The file is being not completely downloaded when it says it currupted or incomplete.
Try downloading it again until you get the complete file.
I had the same problem too downloading it.I had to try to download it a bunch of times.
