I enjoy the program very much. I am exeriencing a problem.
First of all I will explain my computer spects:
Dell 8400 3.4 gig w/ 2 80 gig hd's. 1 gig of Ram. Belkin Networking, Windows Xp-Sp2
I have two spyware programs that I run 2-3x a week (x-block & Adware Se. I have Norton Antivirus NIS 2005 and run this program 2-3x a week. Windows firewall has been shut off.
I have Winmx 3.54 beta 4.
I keep recewiving the following error message:
WinMX has emncountering a problem & needs to close. Sorry for the inconvience.

I have rean spyware, adware and virus scan and no problems reported. I also tried uninstalling and reinstallin on numerous occasions. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I forgot this additional info:
Cable connection
I have no winmx add ons
I orginally had a primary connection . Now I have a secondary connection.
I have not added any software or hardware for some time.
 I hope this helps.

Have you by chance installed BOTH the hosts file patch (pie) AND used install 1.9 (ws2_32.dll)?  the two of these together are known to cause problems..

If so, I recommend that you remove ONE of these & see what happens, make sure that if removing pie you use the uninstaller to reinstate your original hosts file, or that if you decide to remove or rename ws2_32.dll (the one in your winmx program folder ONLY) to disable this you use peer guardian or sherwood to protect the network if you ever connect as a primary.

I had unistalled Winmx and tried reinstalling again just to receive the same message.
You are right I had installed the pie a while back and recently used the 1.9 update to reinstall- when my problems began. How do you unistall the pie. There is no listing in the add remove programs. When I had unistalled the winmx  the winMX directory no longer exists.
Any help would be appreciated.

I was doing some checking on my system and I found that ws2_32.dll files exists in the c:\windows\sytem32 directory. Should I delete this file. Would this solve my problem.

Then to get up & running again just install the 1.9 install file???

DO NOT DELETE THAT FILE from that location

It is a vital system file!!

The patch for WinMXGroup is also a modified ws2_32.dll file that goes into the C:Program Files\WinMX folder.  Therefore when you have the patch installed its normal to have two ws2_32.dll files, one in WinMX Folder and one in Windows Folder.

Some users that are having WinMX Crash have had results when reinstalling the Patch 1.9 for xp or also you may try the patch for 98/me users which will also work on XP/2k systems, however if you run a primary and use the 98 patch please be sure to also use PeerGuardian 2 with Block List

My problem appears to be from a conflict (see orginal message)
By installing winmx and Peer guardian, would this solve my problem??

If so could you please direct me to where you can get peer guardian. This is not a spyware/adware program. I am a litter leary on those type of programs

No I cant tell you that peerguardian will fix your problem.  If you would have a read at these posts tho, you will see its not just your system that is experiencing this Error problem.

Unfortunately we are a small group and are working on finding answers for users this is happening to.

PeerGuardian is a Firewall like program that is open source and completely spyware free.. we woudnt recommend anything here that wasnt!!

Because there is a possibility that the RIAA is getting the Christmas spirit and trying like hell to shut WinMX down it is 'possible' they are using an exploit to crash the WinMX.exe file.. not proven yet just something to consider... so for that reason we are suggesting you use the Peer Guardian.. the like is here you can get instructions on installation, download, and most importantly adding the additional block and allow lists there.

I hope the information about the error message in my earlier post may lead to a solution with the crashing problem.
