If you download potentially copyrighted software, videos or music, your Internet service provider (ISP) has been watching, and they’re coming for you.

Specifically, they’re coming for you on Thursday, July 12.

That’s the date when the nation’s largest ISPs will all voluntarily implement a new anti-piracy plan that will engage network operators in the largest digital spying scheme in history, and see some users’ bandwidth completely cut off until they sign an agreement saying they will not download copyrighted materials.

Word of the start date has been largely kept secret since ISPs announced their plans last June. The deal was brokered by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and coordinated by the Obama Administration. The same groups have weighed in heavily on controversial Internet policies around the world, with similar facilitation by the Obama’s Administration’s State Department.

Correction March 16 at 9:04 a.m.: This story incorrectly reported the date when ISPs are expected to begin implementing their graduated response programs. The correct date is July 1.

*yawn* what a pile of ..... I'm sure you all know what I think of this childlike propaganda, firstly its not illegal to download so the whole project is actually misnamed simply to scare folks into making the politicians friends and contributors even more rich than they are already by their monopoly of greed and on top of that when they control the web will they drop their demands for infinite copyright extentions ?

Of course not, these organisations are staffed by criminals and fraudsters in my opinion, who else would try to sell anyone the same material 5 times when the reality is you licenced it the first time you paid, and we all know those copyright time extentions where only granted to compensate then for their pretend losses, with no such losses pretend or otherwise what will be the justification for the next raid at the public pocketbook ?

Be nice if anti monopolists took action on the same day to indicate the true strength of the democracy against unwarranted monopolisation of folks personal liberties

ISP's don't want to close accounts, they will mostly go through the motions to make it appear as though they are doing whats needed enough to keep them out of court.

As for the hideous accents and even more hideous TV garbage thrust upon us daily...

I don't think there are many in the world who would 100% stand behind their governments or the actions of their authorities.
