An update to British copyright law, first announced back in March but only coming into effect this week, means that it's now legal to make copies of CDs, DVDs, e-books, MP3s and Blu-rays - provided they are for personal use.

Before this law change, anyone burning a CD to their iTunes account would have technically been committing the crime of copyright infringement - although the law wasn't generally enforced.

It is still illegal to make copies of movies or music to give to friends and family. If you do want to give an album to a loved one, you’ll need to delete any personal copies you have to stay within the law.
