More abuse of folks trust.

Microsoft is installing an update on Windows 7 and 8 machines which will push users to upgrade to Windows 10. The update  is vague about its purpose. The official description states:
This update enables additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications when new updates are available to the user. It applies to a computer that is running Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

While it is understandable that Microsoft wants to encourage users to upgrade to Windows 10, something as radical as an upgrade from Windows 7 is normally treated more transparently. Sneaking the process into an update described so vaguely – and which may get installed without the user ever seeing the description – seems at first sight to fall short. It is common for users to click OK without understanding the consequences, particularly if dealing with a trusted source such as Microsoft.

However good Windows 10 turns out to be, some will still prefer the familiarity of Windows 7, or want to stay with it for compatibility reasons.

I suppose we shouldn't be surprised MS are desperate to get folks onto their paying-app platform, seeing Apple make a ton of money whilst doing little of any actual developmental work seems a great wheeze.

the .NET framework is technically an add-on..... would it not be possible to install a runtime for apps on 7 and 8 ... or even xp for that matter?

...and doent win10 need secureboot whereas 7 doesnt? so this attempt at a forced update seems like it would leave a few BIOSen behind...
