Major UK ISP Companies To Begin Anti-Piracy "Nag" Campaign

The threat of yet further junk email looms squarely on the English horizon  :/

UK ISPs are to start sending "educational letters" to customers identified as downloading copyright material without paying for it, BT, Virgin Media, TalkTalk and Sky have agreed to send the missives, which will be emailed rather than posted.

The controversial move has been years in the planning, and some experts believe it is too late to be an effective deterrent.
BT, Virgin Media and Sky will start sending out letters on 17 January, and TalkTalk's campaign will begin at the end of the month.

As a customer of one of the above companies it surely falls to me to remind folks that whilst its very true the virtual letters are in effect "toothless" it may well turn out that your private communications data could be handed over at some stage to a third party ambulance chaser or at the least logged for their benefit,

I really think people should be using VPN's with all we know since the 2013 NSA/GCHQ leaks.

I started using one a while ago and ya know it protects against things like this but more importantly it protects your general privacy from all kinds of eavesdropping from your host nation. The UK's surveillance bills combined with things like this that are turning ISP's into police detectives should be ample warning to get protected.

If anyone needs a site to find a good VPN that meets their privacy criteria, ease of use and cost check out this site: https://thatoneprivacysite.net/

It has unbiased, unpaid reviews (no affiliate links of any kind) of lots of VPN's and it has a fair and open comparison chart comparing more than 180 different VPN providers, no provider that is known is omitted from the chart and all the information on is crowd-sourced but then verified by the editor of the site.

This sort of "Nag" campaign usually applies heavily to public bit torrent usage and I agree if your going to use that style of network then its important  to protect yourself.
