I see a stormy passage ahead for this legislation from the porn viewing public

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-40630582

Quote
A nine-month countdown to the introduction of compulsory age checks on online pornography seen from the UK has begun.
The age-check requirement applies to any website or other online platform that provides pornography "on a commercial basis" to people in the UK.

The watchdog will be able to force internet providers to block access to non-compliant services.

The act also sets out other new laws including punishing the use of bots to snatch up scores of concert tickets, and mandating the provision of subtitles on catch-up TV.

I wonder if the legislators have missed out on a trick here, surely deaf porn viewers would also enjoy mandated subtitles and it would only require a few added sentences to the bill,

Whats the world coming too eh folks. :gum:

'determined teenagers' ... yep ... well at least someone knows what they are talking about in this article ...

make it harder for children to stumble across pornography? And what about those minors uploading pornographic selfies...
Parents should get more aware of the doings and where a bouts of their offspring.

parents today are little more than children themselves that have no business raising a child... and i dont say this as 'grumpy old fart', i say this as someone who has observed many 'parents' not paying attention and letting their children do whatever they want at the local supermarket (among other observations)... a child needs structure, instruction, and occasionally a little discipline (and no, spanking isnt needed at all; there are other ways)....

The society of today is something thats in constant flux, with rapid changes going on at a faster pace than has been the case in times of old the moral compass of many gets somewhat "bent" towards a certain kind of short term outlook, the common sense of yesteryear is attacked and old ways of doing things discarded simply because they are so historical.

In times past  access to pornography was limited to a select strata of society based on having enough revenue to afford a glossy magazine and being of a certain age where the prerequisists to ownership of such mataerial, today no money is required to view such images online and further to this theres no "gatekeeper" to control  access, the game has changed and we as a society need to work harder on moral and social rules to police ourselves if traditional roadblocks are no longer relevant, thats my view on this matter.

the idea of young folks seeing images is not my key fear as they will in time reach maturity and maybe be thankful for some basic knowledge on the subject but what does concern me is the loss of childish innocence, during puberty a ton of hormones will make the youths of any generation want to go and pro-create, why cant we ask everyone at all levels of society to make it a bad thing in folks mind to discuss sex and such related matters in front of the children, lifes a mean hard road to travel surely a few years of ignorance and a helpful parental focus on something worthwhile in life prior to those hormones arriving is a good thing ?

My own view on this is that we should be teaching the children about sex at an earlier age, that means reproductive information in general and correct use of contraception and also making contraception available to them without judgement. I also think we should cover about masturbation and healthy relationships that involve a sexual component. Kids today should not be learning about their bodies, sex and relationships from pornography.

I think my view here is that we shouldn't be blocking porn or restricting it with credit cards and other nonsense. We should instead fight it with education. Prohibition doesn't work, so instead we should educate our children so they can - if they so desire - enjoy pornography within its proper context.

I'm a father of two young girls, I do not think it's the governments place to police what they have access to online, it should be mine as a parent until they're 18. We monitor their internet use, we have our own filters in place so that they can't wander across things that are above their understanding and that doesn't just include adult entertainment, that also includes social media and video content on YouTube that is not age appropriate.

I can understand that people don't want to take away the childrens innocence. But I think this is somewhat a warping of reality, people see sex as something seedy and dirty, something to be hidden away and not discussed openly. But it's a loving act that really doesn't hurt anyone, it's not like when you have sex you're shooting up heroin or slicing your skin with a knife. It's a natural urge that is satisfying to scratch and I feel like society has really vilified it so much.

It's like I really enjoy to eat a lovely meal, we all enjoy eating, that look of satisfaction when you take that first succulent bite of a perfectly prepared dish. But we don't treat food the way we do sex but they're very similar. It fills a need, it's enjoyable, people get crazy happy when they're going to eat something they've been waiting for. You pay for other people to prepare you great meals (like hiring a prostitute to give you great sex) there is shows dedicated to cooking on TV (like sexual pornography).

Now of course I'm not advocating for children to go have sex at any age, as I said it takes a level of maturity, knowledge and understanding to be intimate with someone and to enjoy adult entertainment within the context of a normal life, but as youngsters are more liberal now than ever we need to think about educating them and guiding them to make their own decisions properly without us present, we cannot be helicopter parents always leering over our kids everywhere they go and with everyone they meet.

Last thing I wanted to say is this, I'm the kind of parent that if when my kids come to me when they're 13, 14, 15 whatever and say I'm seeing this boy and I want to have sex with him I'd be like, okay well do you need contraceptives? what is he like? has he been sexually active with other girls? do you wanna talk about it more etc - I'm not going to be the kinda parent where they sneak around behind my back and don't use any protection and end up with a 14 year-old who's pregnant or has herpes etc - Cause ya know being that kind of parent that flies into a rage whenever your kid gets drunk, has sex, does drugs or whatever else is never going to work, it will just put a big divide between you and you'll never be able to help them when they really need it because they'll never open up to you.

That's just my thoughts and admittedly I have thought about this a lot.

There is plenty of good sense in what you have posted Pri, I agree its the parent job to keep children in a protective but informative surrounding and they are obviously in the best position to both educate and limit some activities as and when it becomes necessary, I may come across as old fashioned but I still feel sex is not the whole of lifes aim but simply a part of an enjoyable life, it annoys me to see the sexualisation of minors in any form, any parent should be alert to changes in activity and mood, stay on top of those clues and educate when the time presents itself, being a child without lies worries and responsibilities is like a form of paradise and I am never in a rush to deliver the news that kills the illusion of safety and comfort before its necessary..

I agree that sex shouldn't be our lives aim, it is something that should be enjoyed as part of a full life. I feel as though pornography often portrays one side of it. You start a video and the people are getting down to sex straight away that's just not how life is and kids need to be taught that is not an accurate portrayal of a relationship etc
