Author Topic: cannot upload on new windows 7 pc, downloads ok (Read 964 times)

just moved all pgms over to 3-yr old HP pc, win7 pro. I still have the old pc, running winxp, sp3. the winxp pc is connected to router via wireless, the hp win7 via ethernet cable.
the winxp works just fine with winmx, the hp win7 can download, but doesn't allow uploads (time outs). when I installed winmx on win7 pc, I ran as administrator.
all settings of winmx on both pc's are the same (ports.. I triple-checked). since one pc works, and the other doesn't, I believe the problem cannot lie with the router
and its' settings/ports... right? so I'm at a loss.
any advice?

info I should have included. both pc's running avast anti-virus, but 2 diff. versions. I temporarily disabled it in win7 pc, still didn't work. running zonealarm firewall on winxp, running windows firewall on win7 pc..
I also temporarily stopped windows firewall, re-booted, then tried again. didn't work.

are your forwarded ports going to the right internal IP for the win7 box?

ok, did 'cmd', 'ipconfig', found ipv4 address. I added this address to router port forwarding settings, along with 2 new port numbers just for my win7 pc winmx. sound right??
as of right now, can download.. am waiting for someone to try to upload.. will let you know.

unfortunatley, this didn't work. same thing, no uploads. boy thought this would work.

it's now working. I, once again, turned off windows firewall, and now it works, downloada AND uploads. I don't particularly like to turn this off, but I guess the router firewall should suffice.
next morning -- did a little research, learned a little about the advanced settings in windows firewall. there already was an entry for 'inbound' for winmx, but no 'outbound'.so I added a rule
for winmx,. now I can keep windows firewall turned on, and both download and uploads work.

Man you gotta update. Windows 7 is great, but it's time is up unfortunately...

If the older machine that currently runs XP cannot run Windows 7, install Linux. I use Fedora on my one tower and VM.

I also use an ironically named distribution called MX Linux (𝐡𝐭𝐭𝐩𝐬

/𝐦𝐱𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐱.𝐨𝐫𝐠/) which has a dark theme similar to WinMX

Should try and run WinMX on MX Linux haha, currently on Fedora.

WInMX crashes on WIneskin on my Hackintosh even thought Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas does... So I have to use a VM on there...
