Russia To Test Standalone Web Capability - Censorship Precursor

Things dont look good for our Russian friends

Russia is planning to briefly disconnect from the internet as part of planning for a future cyber-war.
The test will mean data passing between Russian citizens and organisations stays inside the nation rather than being routed internationally.

The test is also expected to involve ISPs demonstrating that they can direct data to government-controlled routing points. These will filter traffic so that data sent between Russians reaches its destination, but any destined for foreign computers is discarded.

Eventually the Russian government wants all domestic traffic to pass through these routing points. This is believed to be part of an effort to set up a mass censorship system akin to that seen in China, which tries to scrub out prohibited traffic.

A worrysome scenario seems about to emerge and as always the affected citizens will be paying the price in the form of a loss of access to the open-internet.

Most governments spy on their citizens by requiring ISP companies to store all  data traffic en masse for a period of years but when all web traffic has to pass through active bottleneck portals the ability to control the free flow of information is significantly enhanced, such tactics are often used by despots to control what their citizens see in terms of objective news materials, truth is always the first casualty in any war it seems.

Folks like Merkel can be voted out by open and free election unlike some of the despots in charge of other nations, controlling what the folks read, see and hear is controlling them.  This could be a serious situation for govt opposition proponents.

There does seem to have been a trend of disappearing data, it usually starts with sites disappearing from search engines and eventually losing a reason to exist due to lack of knowledge of their existence, not a nice way to end up but its seems the trend.

good example is a site like old versions where has been a big treasure of applications and patches , lots of those little programs have gone.
there has been a great resource of old mirrored web pages, all gone, try to find tools for windows XP, so far you can find any info, most redirect to error 404, page not found, so even digitized history is disappearing :(

lol well, after all we are disappearing too and then our knowledge goes lost too

lol try to find me the patch slowdown for pascal/cobol written and compiled programs, it would lookup and change wait routines that became to short on fast machines :) don't spend to much time, I could lay hands on the original code of the program and could change the routines where needed. the program named cyclop was used to monitor IBM mainframe batch flow.
