« on: February 09, 2006, 07:35:31 pm »
Here is my problem. Winmx uses 46% to 60% of cpu all the time i've reinstalled winmx 3 times and it runs fine for about a day then the cpu goes up again. What can i do to fix this problem? :x

RiverStar8,

If your not hosting you may try to use secondary, usually speeds are just about as good and the cpu is much less.  If this is not an option for you make sure your settings are at the minimum.

Settings > WinMX Peer Network > Allocated Bandwidth set his to 7kb/s In..

Then on the Thread Duty Cycle in the same area set this to 40%.

Retry you primary connection.

My machine usually runs at 80% plus at all times and has done for over 2 years with WinMx running primary as well as many other things, its not something to worry about as far as I,m concerned, when the cpu is not at 100% it is wasting cycles  :)

Well, not many no.

What patch are you using for WinMX?  Some users have more CPU usage with hosts file fixes.
Have you considered hosting with a Chat Server?  They offer a good way to maintain a room, run your mx for file sharing as secondary, and have enough resources to run other programs at the same time.. its a thought.

I'm using the 2.2 patch. and the only reason i asked about the CPU is with winmx using over 60% it bogs down my whole comp for some reason But i'll take your advice and try another chat server  what would be the best on in your opinion

Everybody has their favorites, we do have pages for all the major ones on the Tutorials option above under How to Use Chat Servers.  Have a look at them and see if they are something.. also trying them is the best way to learn if you like or dislike it.

My personal fav is WCS, not because its KMs work, but because hes done good work on it.  Its a slim beast not using alot of resources, functions well, and has the ability to support most third party apps and color.

They all have pro's and con's, but see what you think of the pages and if you have any questions feel free to post them in the Chat Server section..
