wmp is converting files, why?

i keep getting a message telling me that windows media player is converting files in the background. How do i find out what files it is converting and why. Is there any way of stopping it doing this?

Stopping it is dead easy or more complicated, depending on approach used, the easy way is to use something better to play files ( winamp for example http://www.winamp.com ) the more complicated way is to poke about in it's settings, find out where that's controlled & turn it off... just don't ask me the settings involved, I use the easy approach....
