Moderating forums like this can sometimes be a thankless job, I realize. So really, from the bottom of my heart, Thank You

I am generally a good student...I've been reading tutorials and trying to solve this mystery on my own, but to no avail.

I'm running XP service pack 2
windows firewall is off and I run ZoneAlarm freee edition.
My isp is Qwest w/ MSN
WinMx version 3.54 beta4
secondary connection (the only way it's ever worked for me)
recently installed PeerGuardian

I don't think I use a router, from what I've read on them.

Ever since the re-birth of WinMx no one has been able to U/L from me. I've been asking users all over for suggestions, and tried everything I know.
So I've tried changing my TCP/UDP ports by adding a '1' at the beginning.
Restarted WinMx, and nothing.

I tried reinstalling WinMx all together, but nothing. For awhile there was a banner across the top saying 'update avaliable', so I installed the newer patch, and still nothing.

Someone had mentioned that it was possible that my ISP is blocking me...I thought changing the port #'s would fix that, but it hasn't.

Now, ZoneAlarm free allows only limited advanced settings--it doesn't allow port control settings, but there is a window where it says I can add IP addresses to my 'trusted zone'. I don't know if this is the place I need to add WinMx (it's already on my 'allowed' list) but even if it were, I have no idea which IP address to enter.

My sister asked my why I care if uploads work as long as my downloads are trucking right along. I just can't give up until someone tells me there's no hope.

Many if not most modern cable & dsl modems include router functionality, & require ports to be forwarded, you may find the make/model listed at www.portforward.com if not it's worth checking for documentation on any cds suppluied with it for instructions, this is the likeliest place for the problem to be.

In ZoneAlarm free you have to just allow the program, in the older versions you also have to make sure the program is allowed "server rights" i don't know if this is still the case.. also some (not all) users have problems using ZoneAlarm & WinMX together.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.
