Hi Tomcat

I would venture to say most of us are using WinAmp for music.. well lots an lots.. an I have never seen this before.. can you try making sure you have the latest versions of WinAmp by unintalling and reinstalling from their site.
Also are you saying this is happening when you open the folder the files sit in via Windows Explorer or only when you open them through WinMX?

windows 98?

open winamp before you click them in winmx, so instead of clicking them in winmx to open winamp it just makes winamp play them, that should stop it happening

or you can also change the open settings in winmx so it doesn't cause a problem, but simply opening winamp first is much simpler

if you do want to change the settings in winmx to fix it instead then open settings, go to file launching, then in the drop down box at the top select the "Play" option (it's blank, but if you click the dropdown thing a list appears) then put .. (that's 2 dots) in to the working directory

It only happens when I use it thru winmx, when I go to my file folder and click on the songs in there, winamp pops up and plays the song. When in my library and double-click the song ,winamp will pop up but doesn't put the song in there and start playing it like it did with previous version of winmx. I have  uninstalled and reinstalled several times but still can't get it to work with winmx. When I did uninstall it..... then clicked on a song in the library, the Windows Media Player pops up and puts the song in there and plays it fine but I do like the Winamp player better.  I'm not sure how to change the open settings in winmx so it doesn't cause a problem....Have also tried opening the winamp player 1st but still will not put the song in and play it. Thanks for the feedbacks and am open to any more advice.

Dannyjoe,

If your not using a router or DSL Modem with built in router its simple, you make sure that in WinMX Settings > Internet Connection > is set to Cable or higher in the tick boxes, you go then to Incoming TCP and set that to port 6699 and then go to In/Out UDP and set that to port 6257.  Restart WinMX and on the Networks page you tick the 'Make a primary connection to WinMX'

Then you go do some searches and see if you can get the Chat channel list to come up, if this work then make sure your uploads still work ok if your sharing files.

If you do have a router or DSL Modem with built in router start here:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/routers_info.html

BE SURE you are running the blocking filtering patch, it should say Patch Online in the update bar of your WinMX, if this isnt there the first thing you should do is update your patch to the right one, other wise running a primary your just hosting RIAA flooders and causing yourself problems.

I've downloaded the patch and now Kaspersky is telling me that the patch is a Trojan.  What am I to believe?  It obviously is as it got into my restore files, I was not able to restore to an earlier date on my main computer and also all my music files within WinMx today were gone.  Very strange!

Whats obvious about your claims ?

If this was the case surely the other tens of thousands of users would have made the same observations ?

There is nothing wrong with the patch and never has been, try obtaining a genuine copy of the patch from the addresses listed on this site and ensure your anti virus software is up to date, it wouldnt be the first time a false positive would have ben made, although in your case if your saying your restore file has a trojan in it it,s likely you obtained the patch or the trojan from somewhere else.

also posted in other thread by mexicoray

Kaspersky & a few other security progs do recognize it as a trojan but only because the patch changes a file within winmx to enable it to connect ..... i can assure you it is not a trojan and cant cause a problem with your restore as it doesn't go anywhere except into your winmx files to make the appropriate changes.. the restore is probably a fault within your o/s i run xp pro and get the same problem and i can assure you its not winmx related it seems to be an intermittant fault with xp as sometimes i can and sometimes cant restore to a earlier time sometimes trying different dates resolves the issue & sometimes threatening the pc with a big hammer also works     (perhaps if anyone reading this has found a cure for this they will share it with us)

As for your music files you might want to check the correct file path is selected you can do this by going to settings then click on the file transfers tab and go to the top right of this screen and check its pointing to the appropriate folder you selected for your d/loads to go to then click on close

Then click on library then open the add folder tab and select the folder you wish to share making sure you tick the appropriate file extensions you wish to share also
hope this sheads some light on your problems if not feel free to post back & someone will be sure to help out

as security i personaly prefer sygate and avg as these are a lot more p2p friendly than most .

Myth,

there's two ways of aquiring the current roomname:

1. Go to the site homepage on winmxworld.com, it's posted on there
and
2. We generally add a word replacement for the forum so ALL posts where a room name for the help room is mentioned will always show the CURRENT room name,
so you only need to go to the first post in this thread  ;)

Here it is though, especially for you :P

I suspect Data is alluding to the fact that windows can unpack zip files but not rar files without a third party app, I,ll look into this posssibility Data.

Just needs *someone* to zip them all up, technically it shouldn't be a problem.

Any volunteers?......
