The first time I tried starting the version of WinMX found here https://patch.winmxconex.com/

It would not start under XP x64 natively, then once I changed to run it in Windows 2000 compatibility it started without a hitch, and has been running stable for about 12 hours now.

HI, I've been having weird crashes(freeze-ups/delays) etc. I had 3.54b4( with upload & download Bandwidth Options available. Threw many crashes & reinstall I can't get those 2 controls or only for Uploads but is dimmed & unusable. I also only get approx files to load at start, it ignores the rest.(Can load them as incomplete.) I also seem to lose my Mouse cursor if WinMX is running 3 days or longer. It's there just not visable. It also seems the larger the selection I make in WinMX (i.e. to set multiple file retry times) the slower or longer pause it makes to do it(Numerous times just freezing & crashing. Also does the same when many files are put in too download(after about 200 or so it chugs & slows down to eventually freezing.) [I no longer do that any more.] I use Vista Home Premium on an HP Dual Core Multimedia System. I would most like to get my UP & Downloads Individual Bandwidth controls Back. or Yeah also been having D/l counter Misquote # of actual D/l's. Also I am a victim of Bandwidth Throttling by Bell Canada. worst between 5-11pm. Great speeds otherwise.

Look at the install guide for windows 7/vist in the vista compatability section. I have outlined the procedure to fix the incomplete issue you are having.
As for your mouse dissapearing it sounds like winmx is eating your system resources due to being overloaded.
The more you tell it to do and the more you do (ie the 200 downloads) the more it wastes. so keep that in mind.

OK will do, have had system down until I fix this. As well got a Bug that has taken me down for a few days(Uggh) i will review and try. I'm a real proggy from the 80''s who started with fortran IV & punch Cards. I'm a real debugger But never had this crap happen. I've been hesitant to come to these sites. [been through to much crap in the past with similar sites] Have reviewed  alot here & like your approach and upfront answers. I will let U know what happens. [Large D/l'g files (i.e. over 200 etc. was only through agreed trading( Usually old TV shows) I figured resources taxed to limit. Just too many little things happening & weird miscounts. Thanx.  Haywire

Just at a first glance I'd like to know your system stats. available ram, open space, that sort of thing. Last time you opened the case n cleaned it out there, cleared you net cache, defragged the drive, checked the drive health, that sort of thing. Sounds more like pc issue than mx so far.

OK, first I need to ask are we talking about 2 pcs here or just 1? The biggest things I see is Norton and Vista. Vista can be resource heavy as it is by itself but you toss a notoriously resource heavy Norton into the mix it gets worse. Then you tack on multiple downloads and uploads queued at once and trying to find sources, recheck already queued connections, and then retrying failed connections can take a large amount of resources. Especially when you're talking in the possable hundreds of queues trying to stay organised on 1 machine. Then you ask it to do this 2 and 3 days running in a row. Even the best machines can begin to act taxed after all this. You follow where I'm going here? Do you run windows firewall along with Norton? 2 firewalls can sometimes lay down conflicting rules that can make programs go (pardon the pun) haywire. Does Norton have a file guard program in it that can be blocking or trying to block you from changings settings to your up and down bandwidth settings? And that I noticed you didn't say when was the last time you defragged Vista? You can't see its defragger working so this can also be an issue. I recommend getting one you can run yourself and actually see working. Can find a free one at http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag or http://ultradefrag.sourceforge.net/ . Both are free and I've used them and like both in different ways.

i dont suggest using defraggler from piraform. It left my drive in worse state on vista then it was before i ran it.

Who did suggest that? I used both of those defraggers that I recommended on Vista Ultimate and they worked great.

1 System Only

Ok, 1 System, Dual Core. Defragged monthly, Norton 2009 Internet & Anti-Virus. Only Use Norton Firewall With Customized WinMX APP rules for specific Ports. Router also has Special WinMX APP rules for Customized Ports. File Guard on but set to Request Permission First. Never saw it pop up even when I had access to Up/DL right-click Bandwidth Controls. I have Vista Home Prem. SP2. With very limited Startups. D/L's Slots @6, U/L Slot's @ 3 WinMx 3 MxMonitor Max Total 6. I'll try the defragger suggestion, I have now Done a System Restore to Factory Default Image. & have fine tuned, & Defragged, & All Un-neccessary crap Removed. Made Full System Backup of Re-Tuned Factory Image. Also Have Norton A/V set Normal Trust & Max. Heuristic Scanning & Probing. Will now do a fresh Install WinMx v3.54b4 from Conex.  Tips? DSL(110MPS) waiting for 140MPS. Will keep Waiting/Cued files to a Max of 100(Too Much?) I have Been looking at Vista Combat & Install Forums, Will get Peer Guard with Block Lists. Which Patches Updates should I Get &/or Use. A Lot listed in Vista Forum. Doing this Logically & Slowly. I'll get it primed Up & Running again. I have also Fined Tuned WinMx's Bandwidth Settings for my DSL line according to allocated Bandwidth Size as Stated by my ISP. Whew I'm Tired now. Finally feeling Better as well, Beat That Bug as well.
Thanx.,  -  Haywire

The install guide that is stickied will save you alot of heart ache.
Majority of the patches which come through updates actually increase performance such as disk access and file transfer routines more so then they are security patches. But a patched vista is a safe one.

Im not sure what file guard is but i would think MX should trigger it

Will get Peer Guard with Block Lists.

Absolutely do NOT do that Haywire. The patch from winmxconex is the community patch we issue here and through pie. It does what peer guardian does on it's own. With peer guardian's lists you block half of the web and some of our caches that your winmx will use to connect you to the network. Not to mention there's no telling how many valid users of winmx that it actually blocks also. PLEASE do not use peer guardian. Other than that everything else I've read tells me you're on the right track at least. Please keep us informed on your progress and know we're here when you need us.

Im not sure what file guard is but i would think MX should trigger it

The "fileguard" he is reffering to is built into Norton if I'm not mistaken. * It's used to prevent unauthorised changes to software settings.

Good I Popped On. v3.54b4 is up, Prim, Custom Ports, Piped through Norton & Router. All is working Perfect. R. Click Bandwidth Controls Visible & working for Both the UP/DL Windows. Custom Bandwidth settings In & Out. Locked all Files In WinMX folder except ignore.dat & library.dat. (made them Read Only), set Restore point. Gonna Tweak a Bit more Then install MxMonitor. What Ver. works best? Wanna Install a Stable ver. U have a link to it here so I'll try that one first.(I've used various versions, Most OK with Various preset Id's I presume to Skip Q completely regardless of settings. Some had various controls Faded out as well. Thanx for the advice. I'm a stubborn bugger, I'll do it Inch by Inch, till it as tuned to the gills.

Hello haywire,
Good to hear that things are well.
I would like to ask you to look at the top of your winmx after it has been running for about an hour, there is a p=? s=? spm=?  we just need to make sure s isnt 0 after an hour.

In regards to mxmoni if you scroll to the top of this page there is a tab that says archive.
It brings up a list of directories. One of which is mxmoni.
Direct link = httpss://archive.winmxworld.com/MxMoni/
If wou wish to bypass that step but i still wanted you to know where to find it and many other great applications.

With regards to a stable version, I personally frown upon its use and thus i do not use it.
The way moni works though its a plugin that injects code to winmx which allows it to hijack your transfers and moniter them, so in essence none of them are truely "stable"

Well Got MxM from here. Most stable Version I've seen. I Like it cause it kicks & ignores 0 Traders out. As well i can set My trader Friends(Only the Real real Good ones) with Q-bypass ability. I turn alot off like speed control, Drop & ignore if dropped, etc. turn on multi file share while trading. the good points of it. Here's the codes U want.... "P=8, S=3, spm=22707" System has been Online for about 12 hours now. Only bug I C right now is that WinMx nor Moni seem to keep to my D/L limit of 6. I've been checking often & c'g 10 D/L's going & I dropped 4 off them right away. Any Ideas on that? Speeds even when ISP is throttl'n down the line are much better. When Lines are open speeds get avg. 25-90kps. & Can control Bandwidth on Individual files to boost if needed. (Not too much as too take away from others) I do notice certain Users can't connect Nor I too them, Suspect its a server problem more than an issue on my side. Will let it run 2nite and see what it's like in the morn'g. Whats a good # of files to Share/ I share about 5000 now. Too big? Does that affect performance? Oh well Ciao for now & Thanx again. -  Haywire

This means your connection is working fine. if something was still blocking the ports then secondaries wouldnt be able to connect to you.

You seem to be missing on what a primary and secondary are...
There is no server unless you count yourself.
There are primaries with open ports such as yourself who connect to each other and form a network, from there secondaries connect to you and your basically a tunnel for them to perform searches and request channellists.
Only purpose of the cache is to let you connect to other primaries. You connect to it and then get dumped off onto someone else.

There are limits on the number of files a person can see when they select browse on your name but if they are running a search they will all show up.

OK I know That, I guess I'm Meaning certain Primary's Have more difficulty Connecting than others. I'm also reading up on your connection Help Forum. I wanted to ask if it's OK to Put a Link to WinMX World in my Library Intro Header? I have Tons of various help file. But I'd rather get rid of them & just tell people to come here. As well got rid of all WinMx Vers. & MxMonitors Vers. I had. Only have The Versions I got from here. Systems been going over 24hrs. Now & No problems, 'cept # of D/L'g Files Limit. Still not being Limited To 6 as I have told WinMx to do. Anyone else have this problem? Oh Yeah & not a single crash since Doing the Revamp! Thanx for the Help. -  Haywire
