Connectivity
« on: May 08, 2006, 01:34:52 pm »
I just upgraded to winmx 3.54  w/ 2.2 patch.
I am on a shared dsl line thru a Linksys router.
No firewalls.
I have my terminal listed as a DMZ host.
Also to be save I have redirected ports 55556 & 55557  for Winmx TCP & UDP.

As a primary connection I get horrible search results.  I.E.  Beatles retrievs aprox 18 files.
As a secondary it will reteive around 200.
At home I get 1000's!

Any Ideas?

Hi Eds,

This sounds like your primary is still having a port issue even with what you have done, be sure to make sure your firewalls are allowing WinMx especially the XP one if its on, because that one will need your ports set also you have chosen to use.  Also Norton Anti virus needs WinMx allowed in the Worm protection along with the firewall if you have that.

As for the 200+ results that could be your primary your on, (the primary that your secondary in on) they are responsible for the results you get.  Try reconnecting as secondary, you may have to do this a few times to actually get out of the small pool of primary nodes your secondary client has stored and get better results.

Hope this helps you some, if not post back..

If your a secondary user your connected to the WPN via a primary user.  If that primary user is not using fake flooding protection they can have an unstable connetion, infact if they only need be connected to other primary users that are not protected to be unstable.. hence why we at this site preach to use protection if your a primary.

Your WinMx is designed to hold a small list of primary IP addresses to connect to, if you have a list of those and they are unstable due to flooding problems they will have disconnections and cause you to disconnect.  So if you refresh your connection it forces your WinMx to find new primary IP addresses to use, and hopefully you will find a more stable primary to hold you to the WinMx Network..

...in theory..
