Peer Cache Traffic
« on: June 01, 2006, 07:16:25 pm »
Whenever I go in the peer cache status of www.winmxgroup.com, On the rightmost column, (Patch Traffic) the first two percentages are always 33 % and the other 2 are always 17%.

Why is it so?
What do they represent, The number of dll patch users?

it's actually the number of hostnames directed at those caches - patch users pick a random hostname so if for example 9 hostnames point to 1 server and 1 hostname to another, then about 10% of the time it would use the second... the estimate is based on how many of the 30 winmxgroup hostnames point to each cache (and is calculated automatically by the script - it performs DNS lookups to locate the caches)

Is the number of hostnames pointing to a server constant? By the way, what exactly are hostnames, some kind of like a temporary name to a user in the network?
So what exactly do the numbers under the remaining columns measure? Primary, Secondary and aux? The port numbers?

the hostnames are the names that are looked up, the same as when you look up www.google.com to find the IP Address for googles web servers

the others just check each port that the caches answer on to check that the cache is online
