US Rattles Sanctions Sabre
« on: June 15, 2006, 02:15:08 pm »
It seems that after losing out in two high profile cases to pressurise other goverments to act against their own laws the US goverment is being pressured by a few of the Cartel media mafia groups to effect economic sanctions, I wonder if this involves blocking the sale of baby milk and medicines to the poorer counties who do not comply ?

The U.S. government has joined forces with the entertainment industry to stop the freewheeling global bazaar in pirated movies and music, pressuring foreign governments to crack down or risk incurring trade barriers.
More than a decade of hard lobbying by two powerful trade groups, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), has convinced U.S. lawmakers and law enforcement officials that it's worth using America's muscle to protect movie and music interests abroad. Now, lawmakers are calling the trade groups, asking what else Congress and the government can do for the entertainment industry.

"We let China in and China has not fully complied with the WTO requirements" for protecting intellectual property,"The time to get action is now, rather than after they get in," Glickman said.

While I understand their concern at losing potential revenue, their own actions in demanding higher and higher profits and refusing to pass on many economy of scale benefits makes their case simply one of greed, lets see how far they wish to go in exporting their greed wagon globally.

I hope you all remember to boycott those companies that are RIAA/MPAA members and purchase from independent companies that dont rip off their artists and the public.
