cant seem to stay connected
« on: June 16, 2006, 08:36:08 pm »
I cannot find any rooms in the room list on primary, nor can I get anything on searches while on primary....when I connect on secondary, it seems that mx refreshes the connection frequently, or something is wrong...  I can connect on secondary, but I then have to refresh the connection over and over just to enable me to get a whois and browse on others...once the connection is good enough to browse, after a few minutes, the connection goes to sh&*, and pm's come back unsent, and all my sources on my downloads turn red, and the people in my queue for uploads just seem to fall out...  what the heck is going on?
I have the latest patch from winmxgroup.com, and have uninstalled and reinstalled mx 3 times in the past 2 days, trying to see if it will get better....it doesn't...  I am quite disappointed, as are the people I am trying to share files with....

Bad,

Whats going on is the Pie users are having major issues with connections them selves and are (most of them) unaware they are being DOS attacked by search results because they run unprotected primaries, ontop of the fact that all the caches they use to connect are down at the moment.  Its no wonder that other users will then have also connection problems with this going on.  So. my best advise on this is to get your system configued to allow a primary connection.

Do you have a router or dsl modem with NAT capabilties?
What version of WinMX are you using now and what ports do you have set?
What firewalls do you use?
What AV are you running?
What Operating System do you have?

Let me know and we can help you get a primary.

I have a cable connection, I do have a router that I have configured, with the help of the Linksys tech support people, which enables me to get into mx with a primary connection, but i cant do much as long as I am on the primary connection...  running 3.53 with the latest patch from winmxgroup, just reinstalled it this morning in fact...lol...running pglite...only firewall is the windows firewall...using Xp Home edition, use Antivir, Spybot S&D, AdAware, and Enwido.

If your still not able to run WinMX completely with a pirmary ie: no search, poor room listing, uploads dont work downloads dont work..any of these can be caused by misconfigured ports.

Just to be sure have a look here at http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

Just make sure you have it set up right.. look for your router then scroll down the next page for WinMx..

Its always good to check this is set with both ports TCP and UDP.

Bad the connection problems on secondary are going to continure until either folks get switched over to the New 3.0 patch we offer, (which is happening at a great rate I might ad), or the Pie team release a working version of thier patch that actually connects, AND bother to tell the primary users they put on it to use PG2 to help stablize there connections..  :(

As for as that Primary Something is still blocking your ports, I dont see any antivirus that would be doing it listed in your specs..

I myself would attempt to bypass the router first and see if I was able to maintain a primary connection with P=3-9 and S=1-14 ...

If you are you know something is still not quite right with the router, if not you know its software related.
