Open nap?
« on: June 17, 2006, 12:43:39 am »
Hello I am new here but have been using winmx for many years.  I was reading on how to use the open nap to find hard to find files. When following the directions on the help page it would not connect. can anyone walk me through this.

Hi Dumbf*ck,  ( I Soo hate saying that).. lol

The Public files are hard to search for and can be difficult to find ones that are still up and running.

Right click the above link and choose save as..

then find a place on your computer to save it where you can find it easily when you go to Import WSX files on the OpenNap Networks Page just browse to this file.  Select it and allow the list to load.

Once this is loaded simply right click the list and choose Select all
then click on the Connect button and away you should go...

"Once this is loaded simply right click the list and choose Select all

NOOOOOOOO!!!  NO NO NO!  The connect all option is simply the worst feature that winmx EVER included in it's builds!
This is the main reason you see people here in other threads saying "I have plenty of files, why did I get banned??"
You connect to one or perhaps 2 opennap at a time. If you "Select all" and attempt to log into that many networks simutaniously, most users connections cannot send the shared files list data fast  enough and this results in the popular "Banned for not sharing enough" message

Hehe, Then please tell me some other method of connecting to opennap via winmx.

But I do agree with you that, that is the main reason why people get banned from opennap servers... connecting to too many at once.

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

Hi Sam,
I believe in that same post I said quote: You connect to one or perhaps 2 opennap at a time.

to expound more on that, you connect perhaps only one server maybe 2... you wait until the shared file list completly loads to that server, then move on to the next. patience is the key. as far as the most up to date server list available, you can  go to http://www.gotnap.com/   click on client formats and download the .wsx file associated with winmx on that page.
I hope that this has helped someone. :-)
