It could be a firewall issue as tiny says. I was thinking of another possibility. Seeing as how this problem seems to be version specific IE: 3.53 vs 3.54 and the way 3.54 handles the files/shares has been reworked. Its indexing of the files is somehow differant than 3.53 so that leads me to believe that perhaps the way it sends the shared file list to the servers is also differant as well. Perhaps as was stated earlier in the thread by someone else that the way its sending the file list just isint compatible with that paticular server. Another thought: specific networks may have  blocked winmx3.54 (for whatever reason) as slavanap is completly customizable down to the point of blocking specific client versions. Just a couple complete stabs in the dark lol

Sadly, I have just given up.  The rare times I want to find something these days just don't warrant the hassle.

And for some reason, when I try doing WNP searches, nothing ever shows up.  Is WNP dead or what?

Peace,
TBiB

yes, hundreds of thousands of users use a file sharing network with no files on it

I have no way of knowing that, my brother.  I just said whenever I do a WNP search nothing ever shows up. I am not a member of this scene, so how would I know how many people are using it?  Perhaps you could give an explanation that helps.

Peace,
TBiB

Your router's internal Ip might have changed...
Check if it is the same. Search for some polular artists like say Beatles or backstrreet boys. If even those don't yeild results then it's most likely a port problem...

Perhaps the server might be blocking a specific winmx version. That's why the problem might be occuring. Servers can and occasionally do block winmx clients. Numerous hardcore opennap users hate winmx. Perhaps that's why you have a problem with 3.54 and not 3.53.

Cheers :P

KM, I too have noticed a major decrease in search results from WPN for whatever reason. Sometimes I get dozens of opennap results and not even ONE result from WPN. I have my opinions as to why this is so but will keep that to myself to avoid any conflict.

ROTF Sam. I've heard winmx described as "Evil" by the developer of slavanap software.
The reasons given were a queing problem. ie: winmx only recognizes que request's from other winmx users and it ignores que request's from other clients such as audiognome for example. Thus from a  P2P viewpoint, this is a devious and exclusionary pratice.
The other reason was that winmx ignored some basic NAP procedures. (I believe it had to do with winmx's search/browse procedure)

This has been the case for me since 3.53, and is what prompted my seemingly ridiculous (evidently) post before.  I always get tons of opennap results, and never see WPN results anymore.  This has been the case since 3.53, so I have just reverted to using WinMX as an opennap program.  One day last week I actually saw some WPN results  ONE TIME, but never again after that.  It's as if they are being filtered by the ISP or something.  I have the latest patches, so I could only assume WPN was dead.  This is the case whether I use primary or secondary.

Peace,

Most if not all pure opennap users hate winmx.
If they hated it so much and have called it "evil" why the hell do they take the trouble to make servers compatible with winmx? Evil, useless, anti P2P, bullshit piece of code, whatever they call it, they still live with winmx don't they?
Simply as most opennap users are winmx and most of the files on opennap servers are winmx ones.
Without winmx, opennap is dead. Dead like a 2000 year old mummy. They have no option but to allow winmx so that they can stay alive.
Even though he might have called winmx "evil" even he admits that the majority opennap file sharers are winmx ones.

I believe the problems with winmx are mainly as everything is encrypted and no one knows it's code and all. What I mean to say is its difficult to make something compatible with winmx.

WPN searches depend on the primary you are connected to as well. Good primary (fast) = good results bad primary (slightly slow) = not s good results.
Same for uploads...

[edit] WPN is not dead lol[/edit]
Cheers :P

ROTFLMFAO It is painfully obvious that you have not been on many opennap networks lately or if you have, you have'nt paid any attention to the countless people using Utatane, Lopster, Audignome, XNap and several other popular client alternatives. to state that "Without winmx, opennap is dead." is simply outlandish and conveys a non productive attitude towards the utimate goal of filesharing which brings us all together in the first place. I also saw nowhere in the thread where  the following  took place "even he admits that the majority opennap file sharers are winmx ones."

I'd like to quote an article from Slycks Guide To WinMX:
WinMX has an interesting history in the P2P world. During the reign of Napster, WinMX was merely an OpenNap client. It gained an impressive following of OpenNap users, who enjoyed this client's vast array of functionality and features. However, the climate of P2P networking was about to change.

As an OpenNap client, WinMX was largely dependent on the health of this community. During the Napster's heyday, OpenNap was a terrific alternative to this crowded network. In addition, with over 100,000 users, this community could provide just about any mp3 one was looking for."

so you see, winmx actually GOT IT'S START from OPENNAP!
To again quote Slyck's Guide To WinMX:
"On May 2nd, 2001, WinMX version 2.5 was released. Along with its typical OpenNap support, the client also introduced the WinMX Peer Networking Protocol (WPNP). Since WinMX already had an impressive number of users, a core epicenter was already in place that would help fuel the P2P renaissance."
Quotes stolen without permission from     http://www.slyck.com/winmx.php
Before Version 2.5 the WPN did not even exist. As you see, the "Core" users which made up the new WPNP were the original OPENNAP users who had already been using winmx.

I am a user of winmx and opennap both. All I said was that some opennap users and the server operators (along with the new developer of the new slavanap versions) feel that only allowing que requests from the same client IE: other mx users only, is actually unfair in that this procedure ignores thousands of otherwise deserving users who happen to have done nothing wrong except choose a differant client for their filesharing needs. Furthermore, the procedures winmx has implemented for search request's was the only other thing mentioned.

Hate, anti P2P, bullshit piece of code..... I used none of these terms and did not see them used by anyone else. Is winmx evil? of course not. That was simply a descriptive term used in my opinion as more humorous than anything else.
Can't we all just share files and get along? :-) <--- more humor

As far as TBiB's problem with the list sending thing, I'd like to hear from him again and find out if he's discovered a cause/solution yet?

Thanks for asking.  I have simply reverted back to 3.53 and there are no problems with OpenNap list uploads.

Sadly, I NEVER get results back from WPN (or WNP, I can never keep it straight).  As I said before, ONE TIME in 3.54 I saw responses when I was set to primary, but that was a freak that never occurred again.  Somehow these searches are just not getting through to me.

Ah well, I've seen quite some threads in slavanap where more then one person did not like winmx. Anyways, I'm talking about the time after opennap nearly collapsed. It now has not more than  ~60 servers (from 250 and 100k users) . And form gotnap I see, 34489 are users there at this moment. Not taking into account the fact that quite a few are in more than one network...
and at this point of time, I think that majority of file sharers of opennap are winmx. (I think so as most of my searches seem to be the hits of winmx users, as I gather from their whois)

TBiB,
I should thinnk that the lack of your wpn results is either:
a> the files you search for are not with many users
b> perhaps your ports have a problem... Just double check them (mabye internal IP changed)

Cheers :P
