there is no need to lower ourselves to their level

they have repeatedly launched attacks against my servers, so far only one has caused any disruption and that was resolved and resulted in some configuration changes that have allowed the servers to manage through all of their subsequent attacks without anyone even noticing (have to admit to not noticing myself without looking at bandwidth graphs)

however as you know they don't have caches... they have a sabre, sorry i mean a mighty expert sabre that knows all and never has to show any of that knowledge because users should bow down to him and not question his ability to sit on his ar... erm, his ability to erm, how does it go again? i'm sure knobby can tell us

Well your using a hosts file that can not get around it, however we do offer a patch that will connect you, filter fakes and keep the riaa from using you to dos attack other users.

But I was told Peerguardian would do that?
No peer guardian when used with our block list added will keep them from using you to DOS attack other users about 90% of the time, it will NOT filter fakes from your searches.

Pie 3.2, it connected fine yesterday, today its not.  They said urgent update so I did, now i cant connect half the time
Well that Is using very few of the caches available for connection, 2 in fact and most of the time they are probably quite over loaded.
It also has hard coded IPs, meaning if they change or go down your not going to connect at all, we do have a patch that is using more stable caches, wont need constant updates and filters fakes, keeps the riaa off your connection and you dont need to run pg2 with it, want to try that ?

The simple truth is we DONT need to stoop to such levels here, we offer professional style help, curtious responses, a block list for the COMMUNITY to use, and a patch that is a no brainer when given an informed choice.

Following this closely as i have Ive seen the flustrati on building on the pie team to a point that they can not even speak of their host file with out getting mad at the very user they are trying to help.

 The users are more informed and not as quickly lead as once before. This is bad news for Pie, they have a core group of friends that are the main user base and a few new users from time to time , till they see the real harm in using the host file. Then they know what patch to use to help themselves and WinMX ,With WinMX World taking the high ground in its promotion of the DILL and Vladd and his top notch team of fear mongers and truth spinners The people only need to visit their forum a few times to see how they remove and hide any edit all their forum post to promote the host file.

 33% of post on Vladd's forum are how km is a bad person and cant be trusted.
 (After 10 Months the only patch that has not been down is the DILL patch made by KM. The only patch that blocks the flooding and fake files on WinMX is made by KM.)

 33% of post on Vladd's forum are trying to put misinformation to the users.

 (If its not DragonRiders post implying that there are 2 networks. Which is total BS. Its post like if you block files you will kill a cat. They don't want people to know that the use of their host file puts people more at risk by not blocking than using the DILL)

 If you can get any one of pies team to talk to you they will tell you to run A firewall allways and to run a AV. But they don't want you to block a fake file? If it was for PG they would have nothing to even say to a person that wants to block a fake. This shows just how you need 2 programs using the host file to get close to the protection of the DILL file.

I certainly wouldn't support removing the blocklist from public access for 2 reasons, the first is obvious, some DO bother to at least attempt to block (pg2 or adding to firewall rules) & as far as I'm concerned any secondary slot that is blocked to the enemy is a good thing, even if in comparison these other methods only block most flooders most of the time, instead of all nearly all the time.

The other is political.. the INSTANT that list isn't open to public scrutiny by anyone with an internet browser, we will be accused of abusing it.

I would also not support any kind of "direct action", this would put us on the same moral level as Pie or Macrovision, personally I would regretfully leave before supporting that.

It is a matter of some amusement to me, the amount of bad mothing KM they do over there, all on a site basically written BY KM.. until recently he was even credited...

We don't need to destroy Pie, they're doing a good enough job themselves, their credibility is already gone for anyone who reads.. & the simple plain facts will finish them, as WinMX users learn them.

Note: i am considering removal of that list as it currently accounts for a large portion of traffic to the server, and is almost entirely secondary users loading it - the number of list loads is high and the use of apache to host it means the server is very inefficient for many small requests... there are very few primary users using the list from that URL at this point

that is the block list that 2.x use, this is integrated in to the peer cache software and that hostname balances over multiple servers - this server is extremely efficient for many small requests, this is the reason i switched from using HTTP requests to using that system, capacity is much much higher, can be increased by adding servers very easily and the load on the servers is barely detectable

this DNS based list is new to 3.0, the client loads both the 2.x list above every 2 hours as a main list, and also loads this DNS based list much more often, the 2 list are then combined - this DNS based list has the advantage that ISPs DNS servers cache the responses reducing the load (if an ISP has 1 user on it then i get that users traffic, however if it has 1000 users on it i still only get 1 users traffic), this is efficient enough to be reloaded every few minutes allowing for updates to be sent out to clients extremely quickly, it does however have limits in not being able to take ranges (only single addresses) and is also limited in size, this list is used just as a way to get the blocking out to 3.0 users to filter their results quickly while we wait for them to update the main block list

removal of the peer guardian list would not stop people being able to clearly see the contents of the block list, however i currently see no reason major to remove that list

btw, as you can guess from above, if anyone was going to use the peer guardian list as the basis for seeing what the patch is blocking, they would be seriously mistaken (even though all of the lists have the same contents, that could change so depending on just using 1 as a basis for others would be stupid)

oh, and in relation to vladds forum... the contents are more like
50% gay sex
25% km is evil, leave winmx now before he destroys you
24% pie is a patch for winmx, pie is the only way to connect, there is no way to filter fakes, etc etc etc
1% admitting problems with their hosts file not being even slightly useful
